27Section 3: Operating Instructions9/6/17 RC2512 Series 2 S/N 945551+ Rotary Cutters 330-725MTable of Contents7. Start tractor and carefully raise and lower implementto ensure tractor drawbar, tires, and other equipmenton the tractor do not contact cutter or power take-offdriveline. See also “Driveline Clearance Check” onpage 188. Raise center deck fully up.9. Without lowering the cutter, shut tractor downproperly without lowering implement. Refer to“Tractor Shutdown Procedure” on page 12.10. Place sturdy support blocks or jack stands under thefour center deck corners.11. Start tractor and lower center deck down onto thesupports.12. Shut tractor down properly before dismounting.13. With cutter resting on solid supports, power take-offdisengaged, and blade rotation completely stopped:• Check for and remove foreign objects wrappedaround blade spindles.• Check for nicked, bent, broken, and worn cuttingblades. Replace or sharpen blades as required.Refer to “Cutter Blade Maintenance” on page 33.14. Inspect hydraulic hoses for wear, damage andhydraulic leaks. See “Avoid High Pressure FluidsHazard” on page 3. Replace damaged and wornhoses with genuine Land Pride parts.15. Make repairs to cutter and tractor before continuingwith “Blade Operation Inspection” on this page.Blade Operation Inspection! WARNINGTo prevent serious injury or death:• Tractor power take-off shaft shield, driveline shields, andgearbox shaft shields must be installed and in good workingcondition to avoid injury or death from drivelineentanglement and projectiles flying off of the driveline.• Always disengage power take-off, place tractor in park orset park brake, shut tractor engine off, remove switch key,and wait for all moving parts to stop before dismountingtractor.• Some tractors are equipped with multi power take-offspeeds. Be certain your tractor’s power take-off is set at theimplement’s rated power take-off speed or equipmentbreakage may result. RC Series are rated for 540 rpm andRCM Series are rated for 1000 rpm.1. Be sure to complete “Tractor & Cutter Inspection”on this page before continuing with step 2 below.IMPORTANT: Stop power take-off immediately ifvibration continues after a few revolutions duringstart-up and anytime vibration occurs thereafter.IMPORTANT: Read all “Safety Information”starting on page 25 before operating the cutter.2. Make sure cutter blades are not locked against eachother. See “Field Set-up” on page 28.3. Remove support blocks or jack stands and settransport locks for field operations. See “TransportLocks” on page 274. Lower cutter decks down until blades are about 2" offthe ground.5. Start tractor and set throttle speed just above idle.Use tractor’s power take-off soft start option ifavailable. Slowly engage power take-off to get bladesrotating. (Also see “Engage Blades” instructions onpage 29.)6. Initial start-up vibration is normal and should stopafter a few revolutions. Stop power take-off rotationimmediately if vibration continues.7. Once cutter is running smoothly, increase throttle tofull power take-off speed. If cutter vibratesexcessively for 3 seconds at full speed, immediatelydisengage power take-off, shut tractor down properly, and remove switch key.8. Block center deck up before working under cutter.9. Check blades for a locked-up situation. Unlockblades if locked-up.10. Check for other probable causes such as broken orbent blades, loose blades, loose gearbox mountingbolts, and bent driveline.11. Taking proper precautions, make necessary repairs, and adjustments.12. Repeat steps 1 to 11 above to make certain vibrationproblems are fixed before putting cutter back intoservice.Transport LocksCutter wings will need to be raised and locked beforetransporting on a roadway, through narrow openings, andwhen servicing underside of deck.1. Disengage tractor power take-off and wait for cutterblades to come to a complete stop before raisingwings.2. Raise cutter wings fully up with hydraulics.3. Shut tractor down properly before dismounting. Referto “Tractor Shutdown Procedure” on page 12.IMPORTANT: Always disengage tractor’s powertake-off & wait for blades to come to a complete stopbefore raising cutter wings to transport position.Wing drivelines, wing gearboxes, and splittergearbox can be damaged if driveline is turning.NOTE: The deck lift cylinder and wing foldingcylinders are controlled with one hydraulic controllever at the tractor. Be certain that the hydraulichose is attached to the tractor and hydraulic hosesare full of oil before proceeding.
