Section 5: Maintenance & LubricationRC(M)3712 & RCG(M)3712 Rotary Cutters 334-203M 11/6/1840Table of ContentsWing Gearbox Driveline Shield AccessRefer to Figure 5-5:1. To remove shaft guard (#1) at the spindle gearbox, use a flat head screw driver to unsnap latches (#2) onboth sides of guard (#1) and slide shaft guard overdriveline to expose driveline yoke. Do not unhooksafety chain (#3).2. When servicing of driveline yoke is completed, returnshaft guard to its original position and secure withlatches (#2).3. Check safety chain (#3). Make sure it is latched toshaft guard mounting plate (#4) and shaft guard (#1).Center Gearbox Driveline Shield AccessRefer to Figure 5-4:1. To access the center driveline, push the latch releasebutton to open latch (#1).2. Pull up on the splitter box shield (#2) and let it rest onthe center driveline shield (#3).3. Pull up on the center driveline shield (#3) until it restsin vertical position.4. When servicing of driveline is completed, returnshielding to its original position.5. Press down on the latch lever to engage latch (#1).Latch should clamp shield tightly to the shield bracket(#4). If not, adjust the length of the bolt on the latch tochange the clamping pressure and secure the boltposition with the jam nut.Cutter Blade AssemblyFigure 5-47055570547Spindle Gearbox Shaft GuardFigure 5-5DrivelinesBefore each use, check that all driveline shields anddrivelines are in place, undamaged and in working order.Replace the shields and drivelines as needed.DANGER!To avoid serious injury or death: Tractor power take-off shaftshield, driveline shields, and gearbox shaft shields must beinstalled and in good working condition to avoid drivelineentanglement and projectiles flying off of the driveline.WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: Do not operate a broken orbent driveline. Such a driveline will break apart while rotatingat high speeds and can cause serious injury or death. Alwaysremove the implement from use until the damaged drivelinecan be repaired or replaced.Drivelines With Slip ClutchesWARNING!To avoid serious injury or death:• Always shut tractor down using “Tractor ShutdownProcedure” provided in this manual before dismountingtractor.• A slip clutch that has been in use or has slipped for as littleas only two or three seconds during run-in may be too hotto touch. Allow a hot clutch to cool before working on it.Friction clutches must be capable of slippage duringoperation to protect gearboxes, drivelines, and otherdrive train parts. Friction clutches should be “run-in” priorto initial operation and after periods of inactivity toremove any oxidation from the friction surfaces. Repeat“run-in” at the beginning of each season and whenmoisture seizes the inner friction plates.37618IMPORTANT: Prior to initial operation and after 30days of inactivity, slip friction disks to removeoxidation and moisture. Moisture allows disks to slipeasily. Oxidation can prevent disk from slippingcausing driveline damage. This damage is NOTcovered under the warranty.
