When fuel tank is drained, reattach fuel line to theleft/right fuel tank valve with previously removedhose clamp.General Engine MaintenanceDetailed instructions and recommendations for break-inand regular maintenance are specified in the engine23803(Flow Arrow) Indicates directionfuel must flow through the filter.23929Left/Right Fuel Tank ValveCenter Position “O”as Shown is OFFoperator’s manual. Please refer to this manual for engineservicing, lubricating oil levels with quality and viscosityrecommendations, bolt torques, etc. The enginewarranty is backed by the engine manufacturer. Specialattention should be paid to applicable data which is notduplicated here.Engine Oil and Oil FilterRefer to Figure 2-16:Check engine oil daily and after every 4 hours ofoperation. Crankcase dipstick and engine oil fill tube arelocated at the rear of the machine. Mower must be sittinglevel when checking oil. Refer to engine manual andmaintenance schedule for oil recommendation andcapacities.Change engine oil and oil filter after the first 5 hours ofoperation and per engine manufacturer’srecommendations thereafter. It is recommended oil bechanged more frequently if the mower is being operatedin extremely dirty conditions. The oil drain, oil fill and oil filter are located on the righthand side for both the Honda and Kawasaki engines.Engine Air FilterRefer to Figure 2-15 & Figure 2-16:Perform engine air filter maintenance per MaintenanceSchedule on page 9.1. Replace filter element every 200 hours or every year,(whichever comes first). Service more frequentlywhen used in dusty conditions.2. Release retaining clips and remove filter element.Clean canister with a damp cloth.3. Before installing a new filter element, inspect it byplacing a bright light inside and rotate the elementslowly, looking for any holes or tears in the paper. Alsocheck gaskets for cuts or tears. Do not attempt to usea damaged element which will allow abrasive particlesto enter the engine.4. Install the new filter element with open end first.5. Reinstall canister access cover. Make sure it seals allaround the canister body before tighten retainingclips.6. Check all fittings and clamps periodically for tightness.Inspect hoses for holes or cracks.7. Periodically check engine intake hose for signs ofingested dust. Locate and repair source of ingesteddirt.8. Never operate a machine without an air filter installed.NOTE: Do not operate engine with a damaged air filteror without an air filter element. Dirt will enter theengine causing a dust induced engine damage.NOTE: Do not block air intake to the canister such assetting an object in front of the air intake opening.
