12OperationsDetergents & General CleaningTechniquesWARNING: Some detergents maybe harmful if inhaled or ingested, causing severe nausea, faintingor poisoning. The harmfulelements may cause propertydamage or severe injury.STEP 1: Use detergent designedspecifically for pressure washers.Household detergents coulddamage the pump. Preparedetergent solution as required bythe manufacturer. Fill a containerwith pressure washer detergent.Place the filter end of detergentsuction tube into the detergentcontainer.STEP 2:Turn variable pressure control valve on thewand counter clockwise for low pressure until youobserve detergent flowing through the detergent pick-up tubeSTEP 3: With the engine running, pull trigger to operate machine.Liquid detergent is drawn into themachine and mixed with water.Apply detergent to work area. Donot allow detergent to dry onsurface.IMPORTANT: You must flush the detergentinjection system after each use by placing thesuction tube into a bucket of clean water, then runthe pressure washer with detergent valve open for1-2 minutes.Thermal Pump ProtectionIf you run your pressure washer for 3-5 minutes withoutpressing the trigger on the spray gun, circulating waterin the pump can reach high temperatures. When thewater reaches this temperature, the pump protectorengages and cools the pump by discharging the warmwater onto the ground. This thermal device preventsinternal damage to the pump.Cleaning TipsPre-rinse cleaning surface with fresh water. Placedetergent suction tube directly into cleaning solutionand apply to surface at low pressure (for best results, limit your work area to sections approximately 6 feetsquare and always apply detergent from bottom to top).Allow detergent to remain on surface 1-3 minutes. Donot allow detergent to dry on surface. If surfaceappears to be drying, simply wet down surface withfresh water. If needed, use brush to remove stubborndirt. Rinse at high pressure from top to bottom in aneven sweeping motion keeping the spray nozzleapproximately 1 foot from cleaning surface. Use over-lapping strokes as you clean and rinse any surface. Forbest surface cleaning action spray at a slight angle.Recommendations:• Before cleaning any surface, an inconspicuousarea should be cleaned to test spray patternand distance for maximum cleaning results.• If painted surfaces are peeling or chipping, useextreme caution as pressure washer mayremove the loose paint from the surface.• Keep the spray nozzle a safe distance from thesurface you plan to clean. High pressure washa small area, then check the surface fordamage. If no damage is found, continue topressure washing.• CAUTION - Never use:• Bleach, chlorine products and other corrosivechemicals• Liquids containing solvents (i.e., paint thinner, gasoline, oils)• Tri-sodium phosphate products• Ammonia products• Acid-based productsThese chemicals will harm the machine and willdamage the surface being cleaned.RinsingIt will take a few seconds for the detergent to clear.Apply safety latch to spray gun.Select and install thedesired high pressure nozzle.CAUTION: Remove of the pick up tube fromdetergent bucket will draw air into pump causingcavitation and low pressure.Landa PGHW Operator’s Manual 8.916-485.0 - YWARNINGDetergent Injector
