-20-use if the lower saw guard and the spring do notwork properly.³ The lower saw guard may only be opened man-ually when special cuts, such as “plunge cuts” or“angle cuts” are carried out. Open the lower sawguard by means of the drawback lever and letgo of the lever as soon as the saw plate hasimmersed in the workpiece.³ Do not place the saw onto the workbench or thefloor if the lower saw guard does not cover thesaw blade.³ Use a riving knife / splitter which is suitable forthe inserted saw blade.³ Adjust the riving knife / splitter as described inthe operating instructions.³ Always use the riving knife / splitter, exceptwhen executing plunge cuts.³ The riving knife / splitter must be in the saw gapto be able to take effect.³ Do not operate the saw if the riving knife / split-ter is bent hidden.2.2 Additional safety instructions³ Never work without the protective equipmentprescribed for the relevant operation and do notmake any modifications to the machine thatcould undermine safety.³ Children and young persons must not operatethis machine. This rule does not apply to youngpersons receiving training and being supervisedby an expert.³ Always be aware of environmental influences.Do not allow the machine to be exposed to therain and do not use the machine in a damp orwet environment, or in the vicinity of inflam-mable liquids or gases.³ Store the machine in the dry under lock and keyand out of reach of children.Instructions on operation:³ Provide an uncluttered, anti-slip location withadequate illumination.³ Before tool changes, making adjustments andeliminating malfunctions (including the removalof trapped splinters), remove the interchangea-ble battery from the machine.³ Never work with pieces which are too big or toosmall for the machine´s capacity.³ The switch must not be clamped in position.³ Before switching on, make sure that the sawblade ist tightly secured and that the Allen keyhas been removed.³ Do not begin cutting until the saw blade hasreached full speed.³ Examine the workpiece for foreign objects.Never attempt to cut nails or other metalobjects.³ Match the feed rate to the thickness of the work-piece when sawing. Excessive feed rates over-load the motor, lead to poorly executed cuts, and blunt the saw blade prematurely.³ Do not remove the machine from the workpieceuntil the saw blade is stationary.³ Always keep your hands well away from thechip ejection area while the machine is running.³ No attempt must be made to slow down the sawblade by applying lateral pressure to its surface.³ The sawdust created by cutting makes it difficultto see as clearly as may be necessary and canbe damaging to health in certain circumstances. If not working outdoors or on well ventilatedpremises, the machine must be connected to anextractor unit, such as a small portable dustextractor, when operating for long periods. Theair velocity must be at least 20 m/s (65.6 ft/sec.).Instructions on service and maintenance:³ Regular cleaning of the machine, especially theadjusting devices for the base plate and guide-ways, is an important safety factor. Before begin-ning this task, remove the battery from themachine.³ Only original MAFELL spare parts and acces-sories must be used. Otherwise the manufac-turer does not offer any warranty and does notaccept any liability.3 Setting up / Adjusting3.1 Charging the batteryThe nominal voltage of the rechargeable batterymust conform to the specifications on the machine. The battery and the charger are matched to eachother. For charging purposes, only a MAFELL rapidcharging device may be used.If a new machine is used, the battery must becharged first. A new battery only offers full powerafter approx. 5 charging and discharging cycles.
