Connect one end of the communication cable to the inverter’snetwork port, and then connect the other end to the networkport on the BMK sense module. See Figure 2-1.2. Unplug the ME-BMK’s 4-port terminal block, and then connecta (black) wire from Terminal #3 on the 4-port terminal block tothe negative terminal of the battery.CAUTION: The black power wire must be secured to thenegative battery terminal or the BMK could be damaged.CAUTION: A fuse rated at 2 amps must be used toprotect all power circuits (except for ground connections)connected to Terminals #3 and #4 on the BMK sensemodule. Ensure the fuse is correctly rated for the wiresize used. Refer to national and local codes for rating andtype. Normally, a minimum #16 AWG (1.31 mm2) wire isrequired to use a 2-amp fuse.Info: The black 4-port terminal block accepts conductorsfrom #30 to #12 AWG (0.05 to 3.3 mm2).3. Route and connect a (red) wire with a 2-amp in-line fuse fromTerminal #4 on the 4-port terminal block to the positive terminalof the battery.CAUTION: The black and red power wires from the BMKto the battery must not be connected to the input senseterminals (i.e., Terminals #1 & #2).4. Using the supplied 5’ twisted-pair wire: a) Connect the ringterminal end of the blue wire to the small screw on the batteryside of the shunt; then, b) Connect the ring terminal end oforange wire to the small screw on the load side of the shunt.Use Figures 2-1 & 2-2 as guides before connecting.Info: Torque the supplied 8-32 x 3/8” screws to 18 in-lbs(securing the blue/orange twisted pair wires to shunt).Info: Ensure the blue/orange wires stay twisted togetherup to the shunt to maintain accuracy. These wires can beshorter than 5’, but should not be longer than 5’—bothwires must be exactly the same length and size.5. After all connections are made/checked, plug the 4-portterminal block into the ME-BMK (close the DC circuit breaker orDC disconnect, if applicable) to supply power to the inverter andsense module.6. Once DC power is applied, the sense module’s LED should lightas the unit goes through a power-up self-test. After the initialself-test completes, the LED should be green. If so, your batterymonitor system is now ready for setup; if not, see Section 4.0.
