The speech test screen opens, the right ear is selectedand the level is set to the default value.The speech recognition threshold SRT is the hearing threshold for speech. It isthe lowest level at which the patient correctly recognizes 50% of the speech.Usually, recognition is indicated by repetition of the speech-stimulus item. Thespeech test can be done with recorded speech test material from CD or withthe microphone and live voice using standardized word lists. Different methodsfor speech tests are standardized worldwide such as the ASHA guidelines(1988) for SRT testing.Explain to the patient that he should repeat each word he hears. The patientshould sit at a distance of at least 1 m from the device. Eliminate anyobstructions which will interfere with the placement of the earphone cushionson the ear (i.e. hair, eyeglasses). Ensure the headphones are put on correctly.Adjust the headband of the headphones so that the receivers are at the correctheight (the sound output grid exactly facing the ear canal).The signal can be set to microphone, CD or Wave or switched off, for eachchannel independently by the functional selector buttons (11) and (15). Eachchannel can be routed to the left or right ear by the functional selector buttons(9) or (17), this enables flexible mixing.
