OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSRemoving or installing planer blades(Fig. 1, 3 & 4)Important:• Always be sure that machine is switched off andunplugged before removing or installing the blade.• Use the following planer blades.Part Nos. 793008-8 793009-6 A-07412*P-04232Blades with * mark are available in European coun-tries only. Consult your dealer or the Makita ServiceCenter when purchasing blades. To remove the blades on the drum, unscrew theinstallation bolts with the socket wrench. The drumcover comes off together with the blades. To install the blades, first clean out all chips or foreignmatter adhering to the drum or blades. Use blades ofthe same dimensions and weight, or drumoscillation/vibration will result, causing poor planingaction and, eventually, machine breakdown.Place the blade on the gauge base so that the bladeedge is perfectly flush with the inside edge of thegauge plate. Place the adjust plate on the blade, thensimply press in the heel of the adjust plate flush withthe back side of the gauge base and tighten twoscrews on the adjust plate. Now slip the heel of theadjust plate into the drum groove, then fit the drumcover on it. Tighten the installation bolts evenly andalternately with the socket wrench.CAUTION:Tighten the blade installation bolts carefully whenattaching the blades to the machine. A loose installa-tion bolt can be dangerous. Always check to see theyare tightened securely. For the correct planer blade settingYour planing surface will end up rough and uneven, unless the blade is set properly and securely. The blademust be mounted so that the cutting edge is absolutely level, that is, parallel to the surface of the rear base.Below are some examples of proper and improper settings.(A) Front base (Movable shoe)(B) Rear base (Stationary shoe)Correct settingNicks in surfaceGouging at startGouging at endAlthough this side view cannot showit, the edges of the blades runperfectly parallel to the rear base sur-face.Cause: One or both blades fails tohave edge parallel to rearbase line.Cause: One or both blade edges failsto protrude enough in relationto rear base line.Cause: One or both blade edgesprotrudes too far in relation torear base line.5
