6Power tool use and care16. Do not force the power tool. Use the correctpower tool for your application. The correct powertool will do the job better and safer at the rate forwhich it was designed.17. Do not use the power tool if the switch does notturn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot becontrolled with the switch is dangerous and must berepaired.18. Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool beforemaking any adjustments, changing accessories,or storing power tools. Such preventive safetymeasures reduce the risk of starting the power toolaccidentally.19. Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil-dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar withthe power tool or these instructions to operatethe power tool. Power tools are dangerous in thehands of untrained users.20. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment orbinding of moving parts, breakage of parts andany other condition that may affect the powertools operation. If damaged, have the power toolrepaired before use. Many accidents are caused bypoorly maintained power tools.21. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properlymaintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edgesare less likely to bind and are easier to control.22. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bitsetc. in accordance with these instructions and inthe manner intended for the particular type ofpower tool, taking into account the working con-ditions and the work to be performed. Use of thepower tool for operations different from thoseintended could result in a hazardous situation.Service23. Have your power tool serviced by a qualifiedrepair person using only identical replacementparts. This will ensure that the safety of the powertool is maintained.24. Follow instruction for lubricating and changingaccessories.25. If you use this tool unsafely orincorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.1. Wait for the cutter to stop before setting the tooldown. An exposed cutter may engage the sur-face leading to possible loss of control and seri-ous injury.2. Use clamps or another practical way to secureand support the workpiece to a stable platform.Holding the work by hand or against your bodyleaves it unstable and may lead to loss of con-trol.3. Rags, cloth, cord, string and the like shouldnever be left around the work area.4. Avoid cutting nails. Inspect for and remove allnails from the workpiece before operation.5. Use only sharp blades. Handle the blades verycarefully.6. Be sure the blade installation bolts are securelytightened before operation.7. Hold the tool firmly with both hands.8. Keep hands away from rotating parts.9. Before using the tool on an actual workpiece, letit run for a while. Watch for vibration or wobblingthat could indicate poor installation or a poorlybalanced blade.10. Make sure the blade is not contacting the work-piece before the switch is turned on.11. Wait until the blade attains full speed before cut-ting.12. Always switch off and wait for the blades tocome to a complete stop before any adjusting.13. Never stick your finger into the chip chute.Chute may jam when cutting damp wood. Cleanout chips with a stick.14. Do not leave the tool running. Operate the toolonly when hand-held.15. Always change both blades or covers on thedrum, otherwise the resulting imbalance willcause vibration and shorten tool life.16. Use only Makita blades specified in this manual.17. Always use the correct dust mask/respirator forthe material and application you are workingwith.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.WARNING:MISUSE or failure to follow the safety rules stated inthis instruction manual may cause serious personalinjury.OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSRemoving or installing planer blades(Fig. 1, 3 & 4)Important:• Always be sure that tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore removing or installing the blade.• Use the following planer blades.Part Nos. 793008-8 793009-6 A-07412*P-04232Blades with * mark are available in European coun-tries only. Consult your dealer or the Makita ServiceCenter when purchasing blades.To remove the blades on the drum, unscrew the installa-tion bolts with the socket wrench. The drum cover comesoff together with the blades.To install the blades, first clean out all chips or foreignmatter adhering to the drum or blades. Use blades of thesame dimensions and weight, or drum oscillation/vibra-tion will result, causing poor planing action and, eventu-ally, tool breakdown.Place the blade on the gauge base so that the bladeedge is perfectly flush with the inside edge of the gaugeplate. Place the adjust plate on the blade, then simplypress in the heel of the adjust plate flush with the backside of the gauge base and tighten two screws on theadjust plate. Now slip the heel of the adjust plate into thedrum groove, then fit the drum cover on it. Tighten theinstallation bolts evenly and alternately with the socketwrench. |
