9 ENGLISHInstalling bladesCAUTION:•Use only Makita socket wrench provided totighten the blade installation bolts. The useof any other socket wrench may cause over-tightening or insufficient tightening of the bolts,resulting in severe injury.For throw away blades onlyProvide a flat wood block approximately 300 mm longand 100 mm wide. Place the blade and the set plateon the wood block so that the blade locating lug of theset plate rests in the groove of the blade. Adjust the setplate so that both ends of the blade protrude approxi-mately 1 mm beyond the end of the set plate. Place thetwo magnetic holders on the set plate and push themuntil the claw contacts the blade.► Fig.13: 1. Magnetic holder 2. Set plate 3. BladeGrip the magnetic holder and slip the heel of the setplate into the groove in the drum. Install the blade instal-lation bolts.► Fig.14: 1. Blade installation bolts 2. Set plate3. Magnetic holder 4. Drum 5. Blade 6. ClawAfter tightening all the blade installation bolts lightlyand evenly from the center to the outside, tighten themcompletely following the same sequence. Remove themagnetic holders from the set plate.► Fig.15: 1. Socket wrench 2. Magnetic holdersInstall the other blade as described above. Rotate the drumslowly while pressing the lock plate to make sure there is noth-ing abnormal. Then install the chip cover and the side cover.CAUTION:•Do not tighten the blade installation bolts withoutthe blade locating lug of the set plate correctlyresting in the groove of the blade. This maycause damage to the blade and potential injuryto the operator.•Do not turn the tool on with the chip coverremoved.•When installing the chip cover, make sure thatthe chain is not caught by the chip cover.For standard blades onlyPlace the blade on the blade gauge so that the blade edgeis perfectly flush with the inside of the front rib (A). Placethe set plate on the blade, then gently press the heel of theset plate flush with the back side of the blade gauge (B).Tighten the screws to secure the set plate to the blade.► Fig.16: 1. Screw 2. Set plate 3. Blade 4. Blade gaugeSlip the heel of the set plate into the groove in the drum.Install the blade installation bolts.► Fig.17: 1. Set plate 2. Groove 3. Blade 4. DrumAfter tightening all the blade installation bolts tightlyand evenly from the center to the outside, tighten themcompletely following the same sequence.► Fig.18: 1. Socket wrench 2. Lock plate 3. Bladeinstallation boltInstall the other blade as described as above. Rotatethe drum slowly while pressing the lock plate to makesure there is nothing abnormal. Then install the chipcover and the side cover.CAUTION:•Tighten the blade installation bolts securelywhen installing the blades.•Do not turn the tool on with the chip cover open.•When installing the chip cover, make sure thatthe chain is not caught by the chip cover.Changing type of bladeThis tool can accept either throw away blades or stan-dard blades. Hood setWhen you wish to maintain clean operations througheasy dust collection, connect the vacuum cleaner to thethicknesser using this hood.► Fig.20: 1. Thumb screw 2. Chip cover 3. Chain4. Hood setLoosen the thumb screws which secure the chip cover. Attachthe hood to the thicknesser and secure the chip cover and thehood together by tightening the thumb screws.CAUTION:•When installing the hood set, make sure that thechain is not caught by the chip cover or hoodset.OPERATIONCAUTION:•Two or more pieces of narrow but similar thicknessstock can be passed through the thicknesser sideby side. However, allow some spacing betweenthe stock to permit the feed rollers to grip the thin-nest piece of stock. Otherwise, a slightly thinnerpiece could be kicked back by the cutterhead.•Always use the push stick when there is a danger thatyour hands or fingers will come close to the blade.► Fig.21Place the workpiece flat on the table top.Determine the depth of cut as described before.Switch on the tool and wait until the blades attain fullspeed. The workpiece should not be in contact with thefeed roller when you turn the tool on.Then insert the workpiece flush with the table top.When cutting a long or heavy workpiece, lift up its endslightly at the start and the end of the cut to avoid goug-ing or snipping at the extreme ends of the workpiece.The use of the tool top enables quick, effortless returnof the workpiece to the infeed table side. This is espe-cially convenient with two operators.► Fig.22 |
