6Cutting operation (Fig. 4)Rest the base flat on the workpiece and gently move thetool forward along the previously marked cutting line. When cutting curves, advance the tool very slowly.Bevel cutting (Fig. 5 & 6)With the base tilted, you can make bevel cuts at anyangle between 0° and 45° (left or right). Loosen the bolton the bottom of the tool. Move the base so that the boltis positioned in the center of the cross-shaped slot in thebase. Tilt the base until the desired bevel angle isobtained. The edge of the motor housing indicates thebevel angle. Then tighten the bolt to secure the base.Front flush cuts (Fig. 7)Loosen the bolt on the bottom of the tool and move thebase all the way back. Then tighten the bolt to secure thebase.CutoutsCutouts can be made with either of two methods A or B.A) Boring a starting hole: For internal cutouts without alead-in cut from an edge, pre-drill a starting holemore than 12 mm in diameter. Insert the blade intothis hole to start your cut. (Fig. 8)B) Plung cutting: You need not bore a starting hole ormake a lead-in cut if you carefully do as follows.1. Tilt the tool up on the front edge of the base, withthe blade point positioned just above the work-piece surface. (Fig. 9)2. Apply pressure to the tool so that the front edge ofthe base will not move when you switch on thetool and gently lower the back end of the toolslowly.3. As the blade pierces the workpiece, slowly lowerthe base of the tool down onto the workpiece sur-face.4. Complete the cut in the normal manner.Finishing edges (Fig. 10)To trim edges or make dimensional adjustments, run theblade lightly along the cut edges.Metal cuttingAlways use a suitable coolant (cutting oil) when cuttingmetal. Failure to do so will cause significant blade wear. The underside of the workpiece can be greased insteadof using a coolant.Plastic base plate (Fig. 11)Use the plastic base plate when cutting decorativeveneers, plastics, etc. It protects sensitive surfaces fromdamage. To replace the base plate, remove the fourscrews.Anti-splintering device (Fig. 12)For splinter-free cuts, the anti-splintering device can beused. Fit it into the base from below.Rip fence (optional accessory) (Fig. 13)When cutting widths of under 150 mm repeatedly, use ofthe rip fence (guide rule) will assure fast, clean, straightcuts. To install it, loosen the bolt on the front of the base.Slip in the rip fence and secure the bolt.Circular guide (optional accessory) (Fig. 14)Use of the circular guide insures clean, smooth cutting ofcircles (radius: under 200 mm). Insert the pin through thecenter hole and secure it with the threaded knob. Movethe base of the tool forward fully. Then install the circularguide on the base in the same manner as the rip fence(guide rule).Dust extraction (Fig. 15, 16 & 17)The vacuum head is recommended to perform clean cut-ting operations. Install the plastic cover on the tool by fit-ting it into the notches in the tool.To attach the vacuum head on the tool, insert the hook ofthe vacuum head into the hole in the base. The vacuumhead can be installed on either left or right side of thebase. Then connect a Makita vacuum cleaner to the vac-uum head.MAINTENANCECAUTION:Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.To maintain product safety and reliability, repairs, mainte-nance or adjustment should be carried out by a MakitaAuthorized Service Center. |
