715. Avoid Cutting Nails. Inspect for and remove allnails from lumber before cutting.16. Place the wider portion of the saw base on thatpart of the workpiece which is solidly supported, not on the section that will fall off when the cut ismade. As examples, Fig. 5 illustrates the RIGHTway to cut off the end of a board, and Fig. 6 theWRONG way. If the workpiece is short or small, clamp it down. DO NOT TRY TO HOLD SHORTPIECES BY HAND!17. Never attempt to saw with the circular saw heldupside down in a vise. This is extremelydangerous and can lead to serious accidents.(Fig. 7)18. Some material contains chemicals which may betoxic. Take caution to prevent dust inhalation andskin contact. Follow material supplier safety data.19. Do not stop the blades by lateral pressure on thesaw blade.20. Always use blades recommended in this manual.Do not use any abrasive wheels.21. Wear a dust mask and hearing protection whenuse the tool.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.WARNING:MISUSE or failure to follow the safety rules stated inthis instruction manual may cause serious personalinjury.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function onthe tool.Adjusting depth of cut (Fig. 8)CAUTION:• After adjusting the depth of cut, always tighten thelever securely.Loosen the lever on the depth guide and move the baseup or down. At the desired depth of cut, secure the baseby tightening the lever. For cleaner, safer cuts, set cutdepth so that no more than one blade tooth projects belowworkpiece. Using proper cut depth helps to reducepotential for dangerous KICKBACKS which can causepersonal injury.Bevel cutting (Fig. 9)Positive stopperTurn the positive stopper so that the arrow on it points oneof three positions (22.5°, 45°, 50°). Then, tilt the tool baseuntil it stops and secure the base with the lever. At thistime, the same angle as the one that the arrow points isobtained.Setting bevel angleLoosen the lever and tentatively set the tool base at the 0°bevel angle, then tighten the lever securely. Turn thepositive stopper so that the arrow on it points one of threepositions (22.5°, 45°, 50°) that is equal to or greater thanthe desired bevel angle. Loosen the lever again and thentilt and secure the tool base at the desired angle securely.NOTE:• When changing the positive stopper’s position, loosening the lever and tilting the bevel angle to lessthan the desired stopper position number allows tochange it.• When the arrow on the positive stopper points 22.5,the bevel angle can be adjusted 0 - 22.5°; when thearrow points 45, it can be adjusted 0 - 45°; when thearrow points 50, it can be adjusted 0 - 50°.Sighting (Fig. 10)For straight cuts, align the A position on the front of thebase with your cutting line. For 45° bevel cuts, align the Bposition with it.Switch action (Fig. 11)CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to see thatthe switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the“OFF” position when released. To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Releasethe switch trigger to stop.Lighting the lamp (Fig. 12)CAUTION:• Do not apply impact to the lamp, which may causedamage or shorted service time to it.• Do not look in the light or see the source of lightdirectly. The lamp lights up when the tool is plugged. The lampkeeps on lighting until the tool is unplugged. If the lamp does not light up, the mains cord or the lampmay be defective. The lamp is lit but the tool does not starteven if the tool is switched on, the carbon brushes may beworn out, or the motor or the ON/OFF switch may bedefective.NOTE:• Use a dry cloth to wipe the dirt off the lens of lamp. Becareful not to scratch the lens of lamp, or it may lowerthe illumination.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Hex wrench storage (Fig. 13)Hex wrench is stored on the tool. To remove hex wrench, rotate it toward yourself and pull it out.To install hex wrench, place it on the handle and turn ituntil it comes into contact with the protrusion on thehandle.Removing or installing saw blade (Fig. 14)CAUTION:• Be sure the blade is installed with teeth pointing up atthe front of the tool.• Use only the Makita wrench to install or remove theblade.
