If the indicator lamp is lit butthe tool does not start even if the tool is switched ON, thecarbon brushes may be worn out, or the motor or theswitch may be defective. If the indicator lamp does notlight up, the mains cord or the indicator lamp may bedefective. When the mains cord is defective, the tool nei-ther starts nor lights the indicator lamp. When the indicatorlamp is defective, the tool starts without the indicator lamplighting up.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Installing side grip (auxiliary handle)(Fig. 3)CAUTION:• Always be sure that the side grip is installed securelybefore operation.Screw the side grip on the tool barrel securely. For work with a side grip at the other different angles, another type of side grip (auxiliary handle) is available asan optional accessory. Follow the installation procedurebelow.Installing or removing drill bit (Fig. 4)To install the bit, place it in the chuck as far as it will go.Tighten the chuck by hand. Place the chuck key in each ofthe three holes and tighten clockwise. Be sure to tightenall three chuck holes evenly. To remove the bit, turn the chuck key counterclockwise injust one hole, then loosen the chuck by hand. After using the chuck key, be sure to return to the originalposition.Depth gaugeThe depth gauge is convenient for drilling holes of uniformdepth.Loosen the side grip and remove it. Fit the convex on thestopper holder to the concave on the tool barrel. Insert theside grip into the stopper holder and screw the side grip.(Fig. 5)Insert the depth gauge into the hole in the stopper holder.Adjust the depth gauge to the desired depth and thentighten the side grip firmly. (Fig. 6)Side grip assembly (optional accessory)(Fig. 7)Install the side grip assembly so that the teeth on the gripfit in between the protrusions on the tool barrel. Then tighten the grip by turning clockwise at the desiredposition. It may be swung 360° so as to be secured at anyposition.NOTE:• The depth gauge cannot be used at the position wherethe depth gauge strikes against the tool body.OPERATIONHolding tool (Fig. 8 & 9)When drilling a large hole with a hole saw, etc., the sidegrip (auxiliary handle) should be used as a brace to main-tain safe control of the tool.Grasp the rear handle and the front grip firmly when start-ing or stopping the tool, since there is an initial and finalreaction. When drilling action is forward (clockwise), the tool shouldbe braced to prevent a counterclockwise reaction if the bitshould bind. When reversing, brace the tool to prevent aclockwise reaction. If the bit must be removed from a par-tially drilled hole, be sure the tool is properly bracedbefore reversing.Drilling operationDrilling in woodWhen drilling in wood, the best results are obtained withwood drills equipped with a guide screw. The guide screwmakes drilling easier by pulling the bit into the workpiece.Drilling in metalTo prevent the bit from slipping when starting a hole, makean indentation with a center-punch and hammer at thepoint to be drilled. Place the point of the bit in the indenta-tion and start drilling.Use a cutting lubricant when drilling metals. The excep-tions are iron and brass which should be drilled dry.CAUTION:• Pressing excessively on the tool will not speed up thedrilling. In fact, this excessive pressure will only serveto damage the tip of your bit, decrease the tool perfor-mance and shorten the service life of the tool.• There is a tremendous twisting force exerted on thetool/bit at the time of hole breakthrough. Hold the tool |
