5IMPORTANT SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS ENC007-4FOR BATTERY CARTRIDGE1. Before using battery cartridge, read allinstructions and cautionary markings on (1)battery charger, (2) battery, and (3) product usingbattery.2. Do not disassemble battery cartridge.3. If operating time has become excessively shorter,stop operating immediately. It may result in a riskof overheating, possible burns and even anexplosion.4. If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them outwith clear water and seek medical attention rightaway. It may result in loss of your eyesight.5. Do not short the battery cartridge:(1) Do not touch the terminals with anyconductive material.(2) Avoid storing battery cartridge in a containerwith other metal objects such as nails, coins,etc.(3) Do not expose battery cartridge to water orrain.A battery short can cause a large current flow,overheating, possible burns and even abreakdown.6. Do not store the tool and battery cartridge inlocations where the temperature may reach orexceed 50°C (122°F).7. Do not incinerate the battery cartridge even if it isseverely damaged or is completely worn out. Thebattery cartridge can explode in a fire.8. Be careful not to drop or strike battery.9. Do not use dropped or struck battery.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.Tips for maintaining maximum battery life1. Charge the battery cartridge before completelydischarged.Always stop tool operation and charge the batterycartridge when you notice less tool power.2. Never recharge a fully charged battery cartridge.Overcharging shortens the battery service life.3. Charge the battery cartridge with roomtemperature at 10°C - 40°C (50°F - 104°F). Let a hotbattery cartridge cool down before charging it.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and thebattery cartridge is removed before adjusting orchecking function on the tool.Installing or removing battery cartridge(Fig. 1)• Always switch off the tool before insertion or removal ofthe battery cartridge.• To remove the battery cartridge, withdraw it from thetool while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.• To insert the battery cartridge, align the tongue on thebattery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slipit into place. Always insert it all the way until it locks inplace with a little click. If you can see the red part onthe upper side of the button, it is not locked completely.Insert it fully until the red part cannot be seen. If not, itmay accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury toyou or someone around you.• Do not use force when inserting the battery cartridge. Ifthe cartridge does not slide in easily, it is not beinginserted correctly.Switch action (Fig. 2)CAUTION:• Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool,always check to see that the switch lever actuatesproperly and returns to the “OFF” position when therear of the switch lever is depressed.• Switch can be locked in “ON” position for ease ofoperator comfort during extend use. Apply cautionwhen locking tool in “OFF” position and maintain firmgrasp on tool.To start the tool, slide the switch lever toward the “I (ON)”position. For continuous operation, press the front of theswitch lever to lock it.To stop the tool, press the rear of the switch lever, thenslide it toward the “O (OFF)” position.Indication lamp with multi function(Fig. 3)Indication lamps are located in two positions.- Battery cartridge replacing signal- When the battery power is almost used up duringoperation, the red lamp lights up and the tool stopsimmediately. Replace the battery with fully chargedone when the red lamp lights up.- Accidental re-start preventive function- Even if the battery cartridge is inserted on the toolwith the slide switch in the “I (ON)” position, the tooldoes not start. At this time, the lamp flickers slowlyand this shows that the accidental re-startpreventive function is at work.- To start the tool, first slide the slide switch toward the“O (OFF)” position and then slide it toward the “I(ON)” position.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and thebattery cartridge is removed before carrying out anywork on the tool.Adjusting the blade clearanceFor BJS160 and BJS161 onlyAdjust the clearance between the side blade and thecenter blade according to the thickness of the workpiece.(Fig. 4)First use a hex wrench to loosen the screw. (Fig. 5)Then use the hex wrench to adjust the clearance bytightening or loosening the bolt. There may be a slightdifference between clearance of both sides of the centerblade. |
