Failure to switch offand remove the battery cartridge may result in seriouspersonal injury from accidental start-up.Installing or removing battery cartridgeCAUTION:• Hold the tool and the battery cartridge firmly wheninstalling or removing battery cartridge. Failure tohold the tool and the battery cartridge firmly may causethem to slip off your hands and result in damage to thetool and battery cartridge and a personal injury.• Always switch off the tool before installing or removingthe battery cartridge.To remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the tool whilesliding the button on the front of the cartridge. (Fig. 3)To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on thebattery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip itinto place. Always insert it all the way until it locks in placewith a little click. If you can see the red indicator on theupper side of the button, it is not locked completely. Installit fully until the red indicator cannot be seen. If not, it mayaccidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury to you orsomeone around you.NOTE:• Do not use force when installing the battery cartridge. Ifthe cartridge does not slide in easily, it is not beinginserted correctly.Battery protection system (Lithium-ionbattery with star marking) (Fig. 4)Lithium-ion batteries with a star marking are equippedwith a protection system. This system automatically cutsoff power to the tool to extend battery life.The tool will automatically stop during operation if the tooland/or battery are placed under one of the followingconditions:• Overloaded:The tool is operated in a manner that causes it todraw an abnormally high current.In this situation, release the trigger switch on the tooland stop the application that caused the tool tobecome overloaded. Then pull the trigger switchagain to restart.If the tool does not start, the battery is overheated. Inthis situation, let the battery cool before pulling thetrigger switch again.• Low battery voltage:The remaining battery capacity is too low and the toolwill not operate. In this situation, remove andrecharge the battery.Power switch actionWARNING:• Before inserting the battery cartridge in the tool,always check to see that the switch triggeractuates properly and returns to the “OFF”position when released. Do not pull the switchtrigger hard without pressing in the lock-off button.This can cause switch breakage. Operating a toolwith a switch that does not actuate properly can lead toloss of control and serious personal injury.To prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided.To start the tool, move the lock-off button forward and pullthe switch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.(Fig. 5)Indication lamp (Fig. 6)Running the tool allows the indication lamp to show thebattery cartridge capacity status.When the tool is also overloaded and has stopped duringoperation, the lamp lights up in red.Refer to the following table for the status and action to betaken for the indication lamp.Note 1: The time at which the indication lamp lights up varies by the temperature around the work area and the batterycartridge conditions.012443Adjusting the shaft lengthWARNING:• Before adjusting the shaft length, release the switchtrigger and remove the battery cartridge from the stringtrimmer. Failure to release the trigger and removing thebattery cartridge may cause a personal injury.To adjust the length of the shaft, turn the gripcounterclockwise until the shaft is unlocked and pull out orpush in to the desired length. (Fig. 7)Nylon cutting headNOTICE:• The bump feed will not operate properly if the nyloncutting head is not rotating.Indication lamp Status Action to be takenThe lamp blinks in red. This indicates the appropriate time toreplace the battery cartridge when thebattery power becomes low.Recharge the battery cartridge as soonas possible.The lamp lights up in red.(Note 1)This function works when the batterypower is almost used up.
