7Drilling in metalTo prevent the bit from slipping when starting a hole,make an indentation with a center-punch and hammer atthe point to be drilled. Place the point of the bit in theindentation and start drilling.Use a cutting lubricant when drilling metals. Theexceptions are iron and brass which should be drilled dry.CAUTION:• Pressing excessively on the tool will not speed upthe drilling. In fact, this excessive pressure will onlyserve to damage the tip of your bit, decrease thetool performance and shorten the service life of thetool.• There is a tremendous twisting force exerted on thetool/bit at the time of hole breakthrough. Hold thetool firmly and exert care when the bit begins tobreak through the workpiece.• A stuck bit can be removed simply by setting thereversing switch to reverse rotation in order to backout. However, the tool may back out abruptly if youdo not hold it firmly.• Always secure small workpieces in a vise or similarhold-down device.• Avoid drilling in material that you suspect containshidden nails or other things that may cause the bitto bind or break.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspectionor maintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike.
