Suchefforts do not, however, replace the need to check lowerguard operation before each use.Only for tools with a ring (specificcountry)► Fig.17: 1. Inner flange 2. Saw blade 3. Ring4. Outer flange 5. Hex boltWARNING:• Before mounting the blade onto the spin-dle, always be sure that the correct ring forthe blade's arbor hole you intend to use isinstalled between the inner and the outerflanges. Use of the incorrect arbor hole ringmay result in the improper mounting of the bladecausing blade movement and severe vibrationresulting in possible loss of control during oper-ation and in serious personal injury.Hex wrench storage► Fig.18: 1. Hex wrenchWhen not in use, store the hex wrench as shown in thefigure to keep it from being lost.Connecting a vacuum cleanerOptional accessory► Fig.19: 1. Dust nozzle 2. Screw► Fig.20: 1. Hose 2. Vacuum cleanerWhen you wish to perform clean cutting operation, connect a Makita vacuum cleaner to your tool. Installthe dust nozzle on the tool using the screw. Then con-nect a hose of the vacuum cleaner to the dust nozzle asshown in the figure.OPERATIONCAUTION:• Always insert the battery cartridge all the wayuntil it locks in place. If you can see the red parton the upper side of the button, it is not lockedcompletely. Insert it fully until the red part cannotbe seen. If not, it may accidentally fall out of thetool, causing injury to you or someone aroundyou.• Be sure to move the tool forward in a straightline gently. Forcing or twisting the tool will resultin overheating the motor and dangerous kick-back, possibly causing severe injury.• If the tool is operated continuously until thebattery cartridge has discharged, allow the toolto rest for 15 minutes before proceeding with afresh battery.► Fig.21: 1. Rear handle 2. Front grip 3. BaseHold the tool firmly. The tool is provided with both a frontgrip and rear handle. Use both to best grasp the tool. Ifboth hands are holding saw, they cannot be cut by theblade. Set the base on the workpiece to be cut withoutthe blade making any contact. Then turn the tool on andwait until the blade attains full speed. Now simply movethe tool forward over the workpiece surface, keepingit flat and advancing smoothly until the sawing is com-pleted.To get clean cuts, keep your sawing line straight andyour speed of advance uniform. If the cut fails to prop-erly follow your intended cut line, do not attempt to turnor force the tool back to the cut line. Doing so may bindthe blade and lead to dangerous kickback and possibleserious injury. Release switch, wait for blade to stopand then withdraw tool. Realign tool on new cut line, and start cut again. Attempt to avoid positioning whichexposes operator to chips and wood dust being ejectedfrom saw. Use eye protection to help avoid injury.Rip fence (Guide rule)► Fig.22: 1. Clamping screw 2. Rip fence (Guide rule)The handy rip fence allows you to do extra-accuratestraight cuts. Simply slide the rip fence up snuglyagainst the side of the workpiece and secure it inposition with the screw on the front of the base. It alsomakes repeated cuts of uniform width possible.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andthe battery cartridge is removed before attempt-ing to perform inspection or maintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcoholor the like.
