15NOTE:If the nylon cord does not feed out while bumping thehead, rewind/replace the nylon cord by following theprocedures described under “Maintenance.”ASSEMBLYWARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched offand battery cartridge is removed beforecarrying out any work on the tool. Failure toswitch off and remove the battery cartridge mayresult in serious personal injury from accidentalstart-up.• Never start the tool unless it is completelyassembled. Operation of the tool in a partiallyassembled state may result in serious personalinjury from accidental start-up.Installing the handleFor model DUR361UFig.12Insert the shaft of the handle into the grip as shown.Align the screw hole in the grip with the one in the shaft.Tighten the screw securely.Fit the barrier and grip onto the shaft pipe with four screws.Make sure that the spacer on the shaft pipe is locatedbetween the grip/barrier assembly and the hanger.Fig.13Place handle between handle clamp and handle holder.Adjust the handle to an angle that provides acomfortable working position and then secure by firmlyhand-tightening knob.For model DUR362LFig.14Fit the grip onto the shaft pipe and tighten it with twohex bolts. Make sure that the spacer on the shaft pipe islocated between the grip assembly and the other grip.Do not remove or shrink the spacer.Installing the guardWARNING:• Never use the tool without the guard illustratedin place. Failure to do so can cause seriouspersonal injury.For cutter blade (only for model DUR361U)Fig.15Fig.16Install the protrusion of the protector clamp to the gearcase until aligning the position with the label on the pipe.Fix the protector to the protector clamp with the twobolts and then tighten both bolts by the hex wrenchevenly.For nylon cutting headFor DUR362LFig.17Align the protrusions on the protector attachment withthe grooves of the protector.Fig.18Align the protrusions on the protector holder attachmentwith the groove of the protector holder.Fig.19After attaching the protector and the protector holder,tighten the hex bolts securely.For DUR361U (optional accessory)Fig.20Remove the hex bolts with hex wrench. Then removethe protector clamp and protector.Fig.21Install the protector attachment and protector holderattachment to the gear case.To install the protector for nylon cutting head, follow theinstalling method mentioned previously.Installing the wire guardCAUTION:• Before adjusting the wire guard, wait for thecutting head comes to standstill. Do not adjust thewire guard with your foot.Fig.22To reduce the risk damaging the objects in front of thecutting head, insert the wire guard so that it controls thecutting range of the mowing line.Fig.23Slightly expand the wire guard outward and then insert itinto the holes of the protector.NOTE:• Do not expand the wire guard outward too much.Otherwise it may break.Fig.24When wire guard is not in use, lift it for the idle position.Installing nylon cutting headCAUTION:• If during operation the nylon cutting headaccidentally impacts a rock or hard object thetrimmer should be stopped and inspected forany damage. If the nylon cutting head isdamaged it should be replaced immediately.Use of a damaged nylon cutting head could resultin serious personal injury.NOTICE:• Be sure to use genuine Makita nylon cutting head.Turn the tool upside down so that you can replace thenylon cutting head easily.
