18 ENGLISHMaintenance1. Have your tool serviced by our authorizedservice center, always using only genuinereplacement parts. Incorrect repair and poormaintenance can shorten the life of the tool andincrease the risk of accidents.2. Before doing any maintenance or repair workor cleaning the tool, always turn it off andremove the battery cartridge.3. Always wear protective gloves when handlingthe cutting blade.4. Always clean dust and dirt off the tool. Neveruse gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike for the purpose. Discoloration, deformationor cracks of the plastic components may result.5. After each use, tighten all screws and nuts.6. Do not attempt any maintenance or repair notdescribed in the instruction manual. Ask ourauthorized service center for such work.7. Always use our genuine spare parts andaccessories only. Using parts or accessoriessupplied by a third party may result in the toolbreakdown, property damage and/or seriousinjury.8. Request our authorized service center toinspect and maintain the tool at regularinterval.9. Always keep the tool in good working condi-tion. Poor maintenance can result in inferior per-formance and shorten the life of the tool.Storage1. Before storing the tool, perform full cleaningand maintenance. Remove the battery car-tridge. Attach the cover to the cutting blade.2. Store the tool in a dry and high or locked loca-tion out of reach of children.3. Do not prop the tool against something, suchas a wall. Otherwise it may fall suddenly andcause an injury.First aid1. Always have a first-aid kit close by.Immediately replace any item taken from thefirst aid kit.2. When asking for help, give the followinginformation:— Place of the accident— What happened— Number of injured persons— Nature of the injury— Your nameSAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.WARNING: DO NOT let comfort or familiaritywith product (gained from repeated use) replacestrict adherence to safety rules for the subjectproduct. MISUSE or failure to follow the safetyrules stated in this instruction manual may causeserious personal injury.Important safety instructions forbattery cartridge1. Before using battery cartridge, read all instruc-tions and cautionary markings on (1) batterycharger, (2) battery, and (3) product using battery.2. Do not disassemble battery cartridge.3. If operating time has become excessivelyshorter, stop operating immediately. It mayresult in a risk of overheating, possible burnsand even an explosion.4. If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them outwith clear water and seek medical attention rightaway. It may result in loss of your eyesight.5. Do not short the battery cartridge:(1) Do not touch the terminals with any con-ductive material.(2) Avoid storing battery cartridge in a con-tainer with other metal objects such asnails, coins, etc.(3) Do not expose battery cartridge to wateror rain.A battery short can cause a large currentflow, overheating, possible burns and even abreakdown.6. Do not store the tool and battery cartridge inlocations where the temperature may reach orexceed 50 °C (122 °F).7. Do not incinerate the battery cartridge even ifit is severely damaged or is completely wornout. The battery cartridge can explode in a fire.8. Be careful not to drop or strike battery.9. Do not use a damaged battery.10. The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject tothe Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements.For commercial transports e.g. by third parties,forwarding agents, special requirement on pack-aging and labeling must be observed.For preparation of the item being shipped, consult-ing an expert for hazardous material is required.Please also observe possibly more detailednational regulations.Tape or mask off open contacts and pack up thebattery in such a manner that it cannot movearound in the packaging.11. When disposing the battery cartridge, removeit from the tool and dispose of it in a safeplace. Follow your local regulations relating todisposal of battery.12. Use the batteries only with the productsspecified by Makita. Installing the batteries tonon-compliant products may result in a fire, exces-sive heat, explosion, or leak of electrolyte.13. If the tool is not used for a long period of time,the battery must be removed from the tool.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.CAUTION: Only use genuine Makita batteries.Use of non-genuine Makita batteries, or batteries thathave been altered, may result in the battery burstingcausing fires, personal injury and damage.
