Follow material supplier safety data.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.WARNING:DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gainedfrom repeated use) replace strict adherence to safetyrules for the subject product.MISUSE or failure to follow the safety rules stated inthis instruction manual may cause serious personalinjury.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function on thetool.Switch action (Fig. 1)CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to see thatthe switch lever actuates properly and returns to the“OFF” position when released.To start the tool, simply squeeze the switch lever. Releasethe switch lever to stop.Indicator lamp (Fig. 2)The green power-ON indicator lamp lights up when thetool is plugged to the mains. If the indicator lamp is lit butthe tool does not start even if the tool is switched ON, thecarbon brushes may be worn out, or the motor or theswitch may be defective. If the indicator lamp does notlight up, the mains cord or the indicator lamp may bedefective.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Installing or removing the bit (Fig. 3)This tool accepts bits either with or without a collar on itsshank.To install the bit, follow either procedure (3) or (4)described below.(1) For bits with a collar (Fig. 4)Pivot the tool retainer back and slightly downward. Insertthe bit into the tool holder as far as it will go. To securelyretain the bit, return the tool retainer to its original position.CAUTION:• Always assure that the bit is securely retained byattempting to pull the bit out of the tool holder aftercompleting the above procedure.(2) For bits without a collar (Fig. 5)Pivot the tool retainer front and slightly downward. Withthe notched portion of the bit facing the tool retainer shaft,insert the bit into the tool holder as far as it will go. Thenpivot the tool retainer further downward toward the barrelto securely retain the bit.CAUTION:• Always assure that the bit is securely retained byattempting to pull the bit out of the tool holder aftercompleting the above procedure.• The bit without a collar cannot be retained by themethod shown in Fig. 4.To remove the bit, follow the installation procedure inreverse.OPERATIONChipping/Scaling/DemolitionHold the tool firmly with both hands. Turn the tool on andapply slight pressure on the tool so that the tool will notbounce around, uncontrolled. Pressing very hard on thetool will not increase the efficiency.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspection ormaintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.Replacing carbon brushes (Fig. 6)When the resin insulating tip inside the carbon brush isexposed to contact the commutator, it will automaticallyshut off the motor. When this occurs, both carbon brushesshould be replaced. Keep the carbon brushes clean andfree to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushes should bereplaced at the same time. Use only identical carbonbrushes.Use a hex wrench to remove the motor housing cover.(Fig. 7)Remove the cap rubber. (Fig. 8)Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps. Takeout the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones andsecure the brush holder caps. (Fig. 9)Lubrication (Fig. 10 - 12)This tool requires no hourly or daily lubrication because ithas a greasepacked lubrication system. It should be relu-bricated after every 6 months of operation. Send the com-plete tool to Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centerfor this lubrication service. However, if circumstancesrequire that you should lubricate it by yourself, proceed asfollows. |
