6CAUTION:• Always assure that the bit is securely retained byattempting to pull the bit out of the tool holder aftercompleting the above procedure.• The bit without a collar cannot be retained by themethod shown in Fig.(1).To remove the bit, follow the installation procedure inreverse.OPERATIONChipping/Scaling/DemolitionHold the tool firmly with both hands. Turn the tool on andapply slight pressure on the tool so that the tool will notbounce around, uncontrolled. Pressing very hard on thetool will not increase the efficiency.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspectionor maintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks mayresult.Replacing carbon brushesFig.6When the resin insulating tip inside the carbon brush isexposed to contact the commutator, it will automaticallyshut off the motor. When this occurs, both carbonbrushes should be replaced. Keep the carbon brushesclean and free to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushesshould be replaced at the same time. Takeout the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones andsecure the brush holder caps.Fig.9LubricationFig.10Fig.11This tool requires no hourly or daily lubrication because ithas a grease-packed lubrication system. It should berelubricated after every 6 months of operation. Send thecomplete tool to Makita Authorized or Factory ServiceCenter for this lubrication service. However, ifcircumstances require that you should lubricate it byyourself, proceed as follows.First, switch off and unplug the tool.Remove the cap using a lock nut wrench 20 or hexwrench 8, then replenish with fresh grease (60 g). Useonly Makita genuine hammer grease (optionalaccessory). Filling with more than the specified amountof grease (approx. 60 g) can cause faulty hammeringaction or tool failure.
