Apply cautionwhen locking tool in “ON” position and maintain firmgrasp on tool.To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Tool speedis increased by increasing pressure on the switch trigger.Release the switch trigger to stop. For continuous operation, pull the switch trigger and thenpush in the lock button. To stop the tool from the locked position, pull the switchtrigger fully, then release it.Reversing switch action (Fig. 2)This tool has a reversing switch to change the direction ofrotation. Move the reversing switch to the Õ position (Aside) for clockwise rotation or the Ö position (B side) forcounterclockwise rotation.CAUTION:• Always check the direction of rotation before operation.• Use the reversing switch only after the tool comes to acomplete stop. Changing the direction of rotationbefore the tool stops may damage the tool.• If the switch trigger can not be depressed, check to seethat the reversing switch is fully set to position Õ (Aside) or Ö (B side).Selecting the action mode (Fig. 3)This tool has an action mode change lever. For rotationwith hammering, slide the action mode change lever tothe right ( symbol). For rotation only, slide the actionmode change lever to the left ( symbol).CAUTION:• Always slide the action mode change lever all the wayto your desired mode position. If you operate the toolwith the lever positioned halfway between the modesymbols, the tool may be damaged.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Installing side grip (auxiliary handle)(Fig. 4)Always use the side grip to ensure operating safety. Installthe side grip on tool barrel. Then tighten the grip by turning clockwise securely at thedesired position. It may be swung 360° so as to besecured at any position.NOTE:• The side grip cannot swing 360° when the depth gaugeis installed.Installing or removing drill bitFor Model HP1630 (Fig. 5)To install the bit, place it in the chuck as far as it will go.Tighten the chuck by hand. Place the chuck key in each ofthe three holes and tighten clockwise. Be sure to tightenall three chuck holes evenly. To remove the bit, turn the chuck key counterclockwise injust one hole, then loosen the chuck by hand. For Model HP1631 (Fig. 6)Hold the ring and turn the sleeve counterclockwise toopen the chuck jaws. Place the bit in the chuck as far as itwill go. Hold the ring firmly and turn the sleeve clockwiseto tighten the chuck. To remove the bit, hold the ring and turn the sleevecounterclockwise.Depth gauge (optional accessory) (Fig. 7)The depth gauge is convenient for drilling holes of uniformdepth. Loosen the side grip and insert the depth gaugeinto the hole in the side grip. Adjust the depth gauge to thedesired depth and tighten the side grip.NOTE:• The depth gauge cannot be used at the position wherethe depth gauge strikes against the tool body.OPERATIONCAUTION:• Always use the side grip (auxiliary handle) and firmlyhold the tool by both side grip and switch handle duringoperations.Hammer drilling operation (Fig. 8)CAUTION:• There is a tremendous and sudden twisting forceexerted on the tool/bit at the time of hole break-through, when the hole becomes clogged with chipsand particles, or when striking reinforcing rodsembedded in the concrete. Always use the side grip(auxiliary handle) and firmly hold the tool by both sidegrip and switch handle during operations. Failure to doso may result in the loss of control of the tool andpotentially severe injury. When drilling in concrete, granite, tile, etc., move theaction mode changing lever to the position of symbol touse “rotation with hammering” action.Be sure to use a tungsten-carbide tipped bit.Position the bit at the desired location for the hole, thenpull the switch trigger. Do not force the tool. Light pressuregives best results. Keep the tool in position and prevent itfrom slipping away from the hole.Do not apply more pressure when the hole becomesclogged with chips or particles. Instead, run the tool at anidle, then remove the bit partially from the hole. Byrepeating this several times, the hole will be cleaned outand normal drilling may be resumed. |
