Discoloration, deformation or cracks mayresult.Replacing carbon brushesFig.7When the resin insulating tip inside the carbon brush isexposed to contact the commutator, it will automaticallyshut off the motor. When this occurs, both carbonbrushes should be replaced. Keep the carbon brushesclean and free to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushesshould be replaced at the same time. Use only identicalcarbon brushes.Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps. Takeout the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones andsecure the brush holder caps.Fig.8LubricationThis tool requires no hourly or daily lubrication because ithas a grease-packed lubrication system. Lubricate thetool every time the carbon brushes are replaced.Fig.9Run the tool for several minutes to warm it up. Switch offand unplug the tool.Remove the crank cap using a Makita lock nut wrench(optional accessory). Rest the tool on the table with thebit end pointing upwards. This will allow the old grease tocollect inside the crank housing.Wipe out the old grease inside and replace with a freshgrease (30 g). Use only Makita genuine hammer grease(optional accessory). Filling with more than the specifiedamount of grease (approx. 30 g) can cause faultyhammering action or tool failure. Fill only with thespecified amount of grease.Fig.10Reinstall the crank cap and tighten with the lock nutwrench.CAUTION:• Do not tighten the crank cap excessively.
