11 ENGLISH5. Do not use dull or damaged blades.Unsharpened or improperly set blades producenarrow kerf causing excessive friction, bladebinding and kickback.6. Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking leversmust be tight and secure before making thecut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it maycause binding and kickback.7. Use extra caution when sawing into existingwalls or other blind areas. The protruding blademay cut objects that can cause kickback.8. ALWAYS hold the tool firmly with both hands.NEVER place your hand, leg or any part of yourbody under the tool base or behind the saw,especially when making cross-cuts. If kickbackoccurs, the saw could easily jump backwards overyour hand, leading to serious personal injury.► Fig.49. Never force the saw. Push the saw forward at aspeed so that the blade cuts without slowing.Forcing the saw can cause uneven cuts, loss ofaccuracy, and possible kickback.Lower guard function1. Check the lower guard for proper closingbefore each use. Do not operate the saw if thelower guard does not move freely and closeinstantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guardinto the open position. If the saw is accidentallydropped, the lower guard may be bent. Raise thelower guard with the retracting handle and makesure it moves freely and does not touch the bladeor any other part, in all angles and depths of cut.2. Check the operation of the lower guard spring.If the guard and the spring are not operatingproperly, they must be serviced before use.Lower guard may operate sluggishly due todamaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up ofdebris.3. The lower guard may be retracted manuallyonly for special cuts such as “plunge cuts”and “compound cuts”. Raise the lower guardby the retracting handle and as soon as theblade enters the material, the lower guardmust be released. For all other sawing, the lowerguard should operate automatically.4. Always observe that the lower guard is cover-ing the blade before placing the saw down onbench or floor. An unprotected, coasting bladewill cause the saw to walk backwards, cuttingwhatever is in its path. Be aware of the time ittakes for the blade to stop after switch is released.5. To check lower guard, open lower guard byhand, then release and watch guard closure.Also check to see that retracting handle doesnot touch tool housing. Leaving blade exposedis VERY DANGEROUS and can lead to seriouspersonal injury.Additional safety warnings1. Use extra caution when cutting damp wood,pressure treated lumber, or wood containingknots. Maintain smooth advancement of tool with-out decrease in blade speed to avoid overheatingthe blade tips.2. Do not attempt to remove cut material whenblade is moving. Wait until blade stops beforegrasping cut material. Blades coast after turn off.3. Avoid cutting nails. Inspect for and remove allnails from lumber before cutting.4. Place the wider portion of the saw base onthat part of the workpiece which is solidlysupported, not on the section that will fall offwhen the cut is made. If the workpiece is shortor small, clamp it down. DO NOT TRY TO HOLDSHORT PIECES BY HAND!► Fig.55. Before setting the tool down after completing acut, be sure that the guard has closed and theblade has come to a complete stop.6. Never attempt to saw with the circular sawheld upside down in a vise. Follow material suppliersafety data.8. Do not stop the blades by lateral pressure onthe saw blade.9. Do not use any abrasive wheels.10. Only use the saw blade with the diameter thatis marked on the tool or specified in the man-ual. Use of an incorrectly sized blade may affectthe proper guarding of the blade or guard opera-tion which could result in serious personal injury.11. Keep blade sharp and clean. Gum and woodpitch hardened on blades slows saw andincreases potential for kickback. Keep blade cleanby first removing it from tool, then cleaning it withgum and pitch remover, hot water or kerosene.Never use gasoline.12. Wear a dust mask and hearing protection whenuse the tool.13. Always use the saw blade intended for cuttingthe material that you are going to cut.14. Only use the saw blades that are marked witha speed equal or higher than the speed markedon the tool.15. (For European countries only)Always use the blade which conforms toEN847-1.16. Place the tool and the parts on a flat and stablesurface.
