13To turn on the laser beam, press the upper position (I) ofthe switch. Press the lower position (O) to turn off.Laser line can be shifted to either the left or right side ofthe saw blade by adjusting the adjusting screw as follows.Fig.201. Loosen the adjusting screw by turning itcounterclockwise.2. With the adjusting screw loosened, slide theadjusting screw to the right or left as far as it goes.3. Tighten the adjusting screw firmly at the positionwhere it stops sliding.Laser line is factory adjusted so that it is positioned within1 mm from the side surface of the blade (cutting position).NOTE:• When laser line is dim and almost or entirelyinvisible because of the direct sunlight in the indooror outdoor window-by work, relocate the work areato a place not exposed to the direct sunlight.Aligning the laser lineFig.21Laser line can be shifted to either the left or right side ofthe blade according to the applications of cutting. Referto explanation titled "Laser beam action" regarding itsshifting method.NOTE:• Use wood facing against the guide fence whenaligning the cutting line with the laser line at the sideof guide fence in compound cutting (bevel angle 45degrees and miter angle right 45 degrees).A) When you obtain correct size on the left side ofworkpiece• Shift the laser line to the left of the blade.B) When you obtain correct size on the right side ofworkpiece• Shift the laser line to the right of the blade.Align the cutting line on your workpiece with the laser line.ASSEMBLYWARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Hex wrench storageFig.22The hex wrench is stored as shown in the figure. Whenusing the hex wrench, pull it out of the wrench holder. Afterusing the hex wrench, return it to the wrench holder.Installing or removing saw bladeFig.23WARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before installing or removing the blade.CAUTION:• Use only the Makita hex wrench provided to installor remove the blade. Failure to do so may result inovertightening or insufficient tightening of the hexsocket bolt. This could cause an injury.Lock the handle in the raised position by pushing in thestopper pin.To remove the blade, use the hex wrench to loosen thehex socket bolt holding the center cover by turning itcounterclockwise. Raise the blade guard and centercover.Fig.24Press the shaft lock to lock the spindle and use the hexwrench to loosen the hex socket bolt clockwise. Thenremove the hex socket bolt, outer flange and blade.Fig.25To install the blade, mount it carefully onto the spindle, making sure that the direction of the arrow on the surfaceof the blade matches the direction of the arrow on theblade case. Install the outer flange and hex socket bolt, and then use the hex wrench to tighten the hex socketbolt (left-handed) securely counterclockwise whilepressing the shaft lock.Fig.26Fig.27Return the blade guard and center cover to its originalposition. Then tighten the hex socket bolt clockwise tosecure the center cover. Release the handle from theraised position by pulling the stopper pin. Lower thehandle to make sure that the blade guard moves properly.Make sure shaft lock has released spindle before makingcut.Dust bag (optional accessory)Fig.28The use of the dust bag makes cutting operations cleanand dust collection easy. To attach the dust bag, fit it ontothe dust nozzle. When the dust bag is about half full, remove the dust bagfrom the tool and pull the fastener out. Empty the dustbag of its contents, tapping it lightly so as to removeparticles adhering to the insides which might hamperfurther collection.NOTE:If you connect a Makita vacuum cleaner to your saw, more efficient and cleaner operations can be performed.Dust box (Optional accessory)Fig.29Insert the dust box into the dust nozzle.Empty the dust box at the earliest possible. To empty the dust box, open the cover by pushing thebutton and throw away sawdust. Return the cover to theoriginal position and it locks. Dust box can easily beremoved by pulling out while turning it near the dust
