23Table (C)7. Cutting aluminum extrusionWhen securing aluminum extrusions, use spacer blocksor pieces of scrap as shown in Fig. 52 to prevent defor-mation of the aluminum. Use a cutting lubricant whencutting the aluminum extrusion to prevent build-up of thealuminum material on the blade.WARNING:• Never attempt to cut thick or round aluminumextrusions. Thick or round aluminum extrusions canbe difficult to secure and may work loose during thecutting operation which may result in loss of control andserious personal injury.8. Groove cutting (Fig. 53)A dado type cut can be made by proceeding as follows:Adjust the lower limit position of the blade using theadjusting screw and the stopper arm to limit the cuttingdepth of the blade. Refer to “Stopper arm” sectiondescribed previously. After adjusting the lower limit position of the blade, cutparallel grooves across the width of the workpiece usinga slide (push) cut as shown in the figure. Then removethe workpiece material between the grooves with achisel.WARNING:• Do not attempt to perform this type of cut by usinga wider type blade or dado blade. Attempting tomake a groove cut with a wider blade or dado bladecould lead to unexpected cutting results and kickbackwhich may result in serious personal injury.• Be sure to return the stopper arm to the originalposition when performing other than groove cut-ting. Attempting to make cuts with the stopper arm inthe incorrect position could lead to unexpected cuttingresults and kickback which may result in serious per-sonal injury.Carrying toolMake sure that the tool is unplugged. Secure the blade at0° bevel angle and the turn base at the full right miterangle position. Secure the slide poles so that the lowerslide pole is locked in the position of the carriage fullypulled to operator and the upper poles are locked in theposition of the carriage fully pushed forward to the guidefence (refer to the section titled “Slide lock adjustment”.)Lower the handle fully and lock it in the lowered positionby pushing in the stopper pin. (Fig. 54)Carry the tool by holding both sides of the tool base asshown in the figure. If you remove the holders, dust bag, etc., you can carry the tool more easily. (Fig. 55)WARNING:• Stopper pin is only for carrying and storage pur-poses and should never be used for any cuttingoperations. The use of the stopper pin for cutting oper-ations may cause unexpected movement of the sawblade resulting in kickback and serious personal injury.CAUTION:• Always secure all moving portions before carrying thetool. If portions of the tool move or slide while beingcarried loss of control or balance may occur resulting inpersonal injury.MAINTENANCEWARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspectionor maintenance. Failure to unplug and switch off thetool may result in accidental start up of the tool whichmay result in serious personal injury.• Always be sure that the blade is sharp and clean forthe best and safest performance. Attempting a cutwith a dull and/or dirty blade may cause kickback andresult in a serious personal injury.NOTICE:• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.Adjusting the cutting angleThis tool is carefully adjusted and aligned at the factory, but rough handling may have affected the alignment. Ifyour tool is not aligned properly, perform the following:1. Miter anglePush the carriage toward the guide fence and tighten thelocking screw clockwise and pull the lock lever towardsthe front of the saw to secure the carriage.Turn the grip counterclockwise which secures the turnbase. Turn the turn base so that the pointer points to 0°on the miter scale. Then turn the turn base slightly clock-wise and counterclockwise to seat the turn base in the 0°miter notch. (Leave as it is if the pointer does not point to0°.) Loosen the hex socket bolts securing the guide fenceusing the socket wrench.Lower the handle fully and lock it in the lowered positionby pushing in the stopper pin. Square the side of theblade with the face of the guide fence using a triangularrule, try-square, etc. Then securely tighten the hexsocket bolts on the guide fence in order starting from theright side. (Fig. 56)Make sure that the pointer points to 0° on the miter scale. If the pointer does not point to 0°, loosen the screw whichsecures the pointer and adjust the pointer so that it willpoint to 0°.
