11After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screws securely.CAUTION:• After changing the bevel angle, always readjust thekerf boards as described above.Maintaining maximum cutting capacity(Fig. 6 & 7)This tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximumcutting capacity for a 305 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lower limitposition of the blade and if necessary, adjust it as follows:Push the carriage toward the guide fence fully and lowerthe handle completely. Use the socket wrench to turn theadjusting bolt until the periphery of the blade extendsslightly below the top surface of the turn base at the pointwhere the front face of the guide fence meets the topsurface of the turn base.With the tool unplugged, rotate the blade by hand whileholding the handle all the way down to be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lower base. Re-adjust slightly, if necessary.CAUTION:• After installing a new blade, always be sure that theblade does not contact any part of the lower base whenthe handle is lowered completely. Always do this withthe tool unplugged.Stopper arm (Fig. 8)The lower limit position of the blade can be easilyadjusted with the stopper arm. To adjust it, rotate thestopper arm in the direction of the arrow as shown in thefigure. Adjust the adjusting screw so that the blade stopsat the desired position when lowering the handle fully.Positioning for adjusting the mitre angle(Fig. 9)The turn base turns up to 47° to the left and 60° to theright.Loosen the grip by turning counterclockwise. Turn the turnbase while pressing down the lock pin. When you havemoved the grip to the position where the pointer indicatesthe desired angle on the mitre scale, securely tighten thegrip clockwise.CAUTION:• When turning the turn base, be sure to raise the handlefully.• After changing the mitre angle, always secure the turnbase by tightening the grip firmly.Positioning for adjusting the bevel angleThe saw blade tilts up to 45° to the left and right.To adjust the bevel angle, loosen the lever at the rear ofthe tool. Unlock the arm by pushing the handle ratherfirmly in the direction that you intend to tilt the saw blade.(Fig. 10)Tilt the saw blade until the pointer points to the desiredangle on the bevel scale. Tighten the lever to secure thearm. (Fig. 11)CAUTION:• When tilting the saw blade, be sure to raise the handlefully.• After changing the bevel angle, always secure the armby tightening the lever clockwise.• When changing bevel angles, be sure to position thekerf boards appropriately as explained in the“Positioning kerf boards” section.Switch action (Fig. 12)CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to see thatthe switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the“OFF” position when released.• When not using the tool, remove the lock-off button andstore it in a secure place. This prevents unauthorizedoperation.• Do not pull the switch trigger hard without pressing inthe lock-off button. This can cause switch breakage.To prevent the trigger from being accidentally pulled, alock-off button is provided. To start the tool, push the leverto the left, press in the lock-off button and then pull thetrigger. Release the trigger to stop.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Socket wrench storage (Fig. 13)The socket wrench is stored as shown in the figure. Whenusing the socket wrench, pull it out of the wrench holder.After using the socket wrench, return it to the wrenchholder.Installing or removing saw bladeCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before installing or removing the blade.• Use only the Makita socket wrench provided to installor remove the blade. Failure to do so may result inovertightening or insufficient tightening of the hex bolt.This could cause an injury.Lock the handle in the raised position by pushing in thestopper pin. (Fig. 1)To remove the blade, use the socket wrench to loosen thehex bolt holding the centre cover by turning itcounterclockwise. Raise the blade guard and centrecover. (Fig. 14)Press the shaft lock to lock the spindle and use the socketwrench to loosen the hex bolt clockwise. Then remove thehex bolt, outer flange and blade. (Fig. 15)To install the blade, mount it carefully onto the spindle,making sure that the direction of the arrow on the surfaceof the blade matches the direction of the arrow on theblade case.Install the outer flange and hex bolt, and then use thesocket wrench to tighten the hex bolt (left-handed)securely counterclockwise while pressing the shaft lock.(Fig. 15 & 16)Return the blade guard and center cover to its originalposition.
