Do not use saw blades manufactured from highspeed steel.33. Some dust created from operation containschemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects orother reproductive harm. Some examples of thesechemicals are:• lead from lead-based-painted material and,• arsenic and chromium from chemically-treatedlumber.Your risk from these exposures varies,depending on how often you do this type ofwork. To reduce your exposure to thesechemicals: work in a well ventilated area andwork with approved safety equipment, such asthose dust masks that are specially designed tofilter out microscopic particles.34. To reduce the emitted noise, always be sure thatthe blade is sharp and clean.35. The operator is adequately trained in the use,adjustment and operation of the machine.36. Use correctly sharpened saw blades. Observe themaximum speed marked on the saw blade.37. Refrain from removing any cut-offs or other partsof the workpiece from the cutting area whilst thetool is running and the saw head is not in the restposition.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.INSTALLATIONBench mountingWhen the tool is shipped, the handle is locked in thelowered position by the stopper pin. Release the stopperpin by lowering the handle slightly and pulling the stopperpin. (Fig. 1)This tool should be bolted with four bolts to a level andstable surface using the bolt holes provided in the tool’sbase. This will help prevent tipping and possible injury.(Fig. 2)FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before adjusting or checking function on thetool.Blade guard (Fig. 3)When lowering the handle, the blade guard risesautomatically. The blade guard returns to its originalposition when the cut is completed and the handle israised. NEVER DEFEAT OR REMOVE THE BLADEGUARD OR THE SPRING WHICH ATTACHES TO THEGUARD.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintain theblade guard in good condition. Any irregular operation ofthe blade guard should be corrected immediately. Checkto assure spring loaded return action of guard. NEVERUSE THE TOOL IF THE BLADE GUARD OR SPRINGARE DAMAGED, FAULTY OR REMOVED. DOING SO ISHIGHLY DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUSPERSONAL INJURY.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, or sawdustadheres to it in such a way that the blade and/orworkpiece is no longer easily visible, unplug the saw andclean the guard carefully with a damp cloth. Do not usesolvents or any petroleum-based cleaners on the plasticguard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision through theguard is impaired, use the supplied socket wrench toloosen the hex bolt holding the center cover. Loosen thehex bolt by turning it counterclockwise and raise the bladeguard and center cover. With the blade guard sopositioned, cleaning can be more completely andefficiently accomplished. When cleaning is complete,reverse procedure above and secure bolt. Do not removespring holding blade guard. If guard becomes discoloredthrough age or UV light exposure, contact a Makitaservice center for a new guard. DO NOT DEFEAT ORREMOVE GUARD. (Fig. 4)Positioning kerf board (Fig. 5 & 6)This tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turn baseto minimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. The kerfboards are factory adjusted so that the saw blade doesnot contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust the kerfboards as follows:First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each on leftand right) securing the kerf boards. Re-tighten them onlyto the extent that the kerf boards can still be easily movedby hand. Lower the handle fully and push in the stopperpin to lock the handle in the lowered position. Loosen theknob which secures the slide poles. Pull the carriagetoward you fully. Adjust the kerf boards so that the kerfboards just contact the sides of the blade teeth. Tightenthe front screws (do not tighten firmly). Push the carriagetoward the guide fence fully and adjust the kerf boards sothat the kerf boards just contact the sides of blade teeth.Tighten the rear screws (do not tighten firmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screws securely.CAUTION:• Before and after changing the bevel angle, alwaysadjust the kerf boards as described above.Maintaining maximum cutting capacityThis tool is factory adjusted to provide the maximumcutting capacity for a 305 mm saw blade.When installing a new blade, always check the lower limitposition of the blade and if necessary, adjust it as follows:(Fig. 7 & 8)First, unplug the tool. Push the carriage toward the guidefence fully and lower the handle completely. Use thesocket wrench to turn the adjusting bolt until the peripheryof the blade extends slightly below the top surface of theturn base at the point where the front face of the guidefence meets the top surface of the turn base.With the tool unplugged, rotate the blade by hand whileholding the handle all the way down to be sure that the |
