10When you wish to perform clean cutting operation, connect a Makita vacuum cleaner to your tool. Install thedust nozzle (optional accessory) on the tool using thescrew. Then connect a hose of the vacuum cleaner tothe dust nozzle as shown in the figure.OPERATIONCAUTION: Be sure to move the tool forward in a straight linegently. Forcing or twisting the tool will result inoverheating the motor and dangerous kickback, possibly causing severe injury.NOTE: When the battery cartridge temperature is low, thetool may not work to its full capacity. At this time, for example, use the tool for a light-duty cut for awhile until the battery cartridge warms up as highas room temperature. Then, the tool can work to itsfull capacity.011435Hold the tool firmly. The tool is provided with both a frontgrip (motor housing) and rear handle. Use both to bestgrasp the tool. If both hands are holding saw, theycannot be cut by the blade. Set the base on theworkpiece to be cut without the blade making anycontact. Then turn the tool on and wait until the bladeattains full speed. Now simply move the tool forwardover the workpiece surface, keeping it flat andadvancing smoothly until the sawing is completed. To get clean cuts, keep your sawing line straight andyour speed of advance uniform. If the cut fails to properlyfollow your intended cut line, do not attempt to turn orforce the tool back to the cut line. Doing so may bind theblade and lead to dangerous kickback and possibleserious injury. Release switch, wait for blade to stop andthen withdraw tool. Realign tool on new cut line, andstart cut again. Attempt to avoid positioning whichexposes operator to chips and wood dust being ejectedfrom saw. Use eye protection to help avoid injury.Rip fence (Guide rule) (optional accessory)011334The handy rip fence allows you to do extra-accuratestraight cuts. Simply slide the rip fence up snugly againstthe side of the workpiece and secure it in position withthe screw on the front of the base. It also makesrepeated cuts of uniform width possible.MAINTENANCECAUTION: Always be sure that the tool is switched off and thebattery cartridge is removed before attempting toperform inspection or maintenance. Clean out the upper and lower guards toensure there is no accumulated sawdust whichmay impede the operation of the lowerguarding system. A dirty guarding system maylimit the proper operation which could result inserious personal injury. The most effective way toaccomplish this cleaning is with compressed air. Ifthe dust is being blown out of the guards besure the proper eye and breathing protection isused. Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result. To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, any other maintenance or adjustment should beperformed by Makita Authorized or Factory ServiceCenters, always using Makita replacement parts.
