16 ENGLISHFUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION: Always be sure that the tool isswitched off and the battery cartridge is removedbefore adjusting or checking function on the tool.Installing or removing battery cartridgeCAUTION: Always switch off the tool beforeinstalling or removing of the battery cartridge.CAUTION: Hold the tool and the battery car-tridge firmly when installing or removing batterycartridge. Battery cartridgeTo remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the toolwhile sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on thebattery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slipit into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in placewith a little click. If you can see the red indicator asshown in the figure, it is not locked completely.CAUTION: Always install the battery cartridgefully until the red indicator cannot be seen. If not,it may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury toyou or someone around you.CAUTION: Do not install the battery cartridgeforcibly. If the cartridge does not slide in easily, it isnot being inserted correctly.Indicating the remaining battery capacityPress the check button on the battery cartridge to indi-cate the remaining battery capacity. This system automatically cuts off power to themotor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will auto-matically stop during operation if the tool or battery isplaced under one of the following conditions:Overload protectionWhen the battery is operated in a manner that causesit to draw an abnormally high current, the tool automati-cally stops and the main power lamp blinks in green. Inthis situation, turn the tool off and stop the applicationthat caused the tool to become overloaded. Then turnthe tool on to restart.Overheat protectionWhen the tool or battery is overheated, the tool stopsautomatically and the main power lamp lights up in red.In this case, let the tool and battery cool before turningthe tool on again.NOTE: In high temperature environment, the over-heat protection likely to work and the tool stopsautomatically.Overdischarge protectionWhen the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stopsautomatically and the main power lamp blinks in red. Inthis case, remove the battery from the tool and chargethe battery.Protections against other causesProtection system is also designed for other causesthat could damage the tool and allows the tool to stopautomatically. Take all the following steps to clear thecauses, when the tool has been brought to a temporaryhalt or stop in operation.1. Turn the tool off, and then turn it on again torestart.2. Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them withrecharged battery(ies).3. Let the machine and battery(ies) cool down.If no improvement can be found by restoring protectionsystem, then contact your local Makita Service Center.Main power switchWARNING: Always turn off the main powerswitch when not in use.To turn on the tool, press the main power switch.
