14 ENGLISHFUNCTIONALDESCRIPTIONCAUTION: Always be sure that the tool isswitched off and the battery cartridge is removedbefore adjusting or checking function on the tool.Using the tool as cordless hedgetrimmerThis tool can be used as a cordless hedge trimmer byinstalling the shear blades for hedge trimmer.Installing or removing batterycartridgeCAUTION: Always switch off the tool beforeinstalling or removing of the battery cartridge.CAUTION: Hold the tool and the battery car-tridge firmly when installing or removing batterycartridge. Failure to hold the tool and the batterycartridge firmly may cause them to slip off your handsand result in damage to the tool and battery cartridgeand a personal injury.► Fig.1: 1. Red indicator 2. Battery cartridgeTo remove the battery cartridge, slide it from the toolwhile sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on thebattery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slipit into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in placewith a little click. If you can see the red indicator asshown in the figure, it is not locked completely.CAUTION: Always install the battery cartridgefully until the red indicator cannot be seen. If not,it may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury toyou or someone around you.CAUTION: Do not install the battery cartridgeforcibly. If the cartridge does not slide in easily, it isnot being inserted correctly.Tool / battery protection systemThe tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection sys-tem. This system automatically cuts off power to themotor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will auto-matically stop during operation if the tool or battery isplaced under one of the following conditions:Overload protectionWhen the battery is operated in a manner that causesit to draw an abnormally high current, the tool automati -cally stops. In this situation, turn the tool off and stop theapplication that caused the tool to become overloaded.Then turn the tool on to restart.Overheat protectionWhen the battery is overheated, the tool stops automat -ically. In this case, let the tool and battery cool beforeturning the tool on again.Overdischarge protectionWhen the battery capacity is not enough, the tool stopsautomatically. If you turn the tool on, the motor runsagain but stops soon. In this case, remove the batteryfrom the tool and charge the battery.Switch actionWARNING: Before installing the battery car-tridge into the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns tothe "OFF" position when released.WARNING: For your safety, this tool isequipped with the lock-off button which preventsthe tool from unintended starting. Never use thetool if it starts when you pull the switch triggerwithout pressing the lock-off button. Ask your localMakita Service Center for repairs.WARNING: Never disable the lock function ortape down the lock-off button.NOTICE: Do not pull the switch trigger forciblywithout pressing the lock-off button. Lock-off buttonTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentallypulled, a lock-off button is provided.To start the tool, press the lock-off button and pull theswitch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop. Thelock-off button can be pressed from either the right orleft side.Indicator lampThe indicator lamp blinks or lights up when the remain-ing battery capacity is low or empty. The indicator lampalso lights up when the tool becomes overloaded.► Fig.3: 1.
