5b) The grinding surface of centre depressedwheels must be mounted below the plane ofthe guard lip. An improperly mounted wheel thatprojects through the plane of the guard lip cannotbe adequately protected.c) The guard must be securely attached to thepower tool and positioned for maximum safety, sothe least amount of wheel is exposed towards theoperator. The guard helps to protect the operator frombroken wheel fragments, accidental contact with wheeland sparks that could ignite clothing.d) Wheels must be used only for recommendedapplications. For example: do not grind withthe side of cut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheelsare intended for peripheral grinding, side forcesapplied to these wheels may cause them to shatter.e) Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are ofcorrect size and shape for your selected wheel.Proper wheel flanges support the wheel thus reducingthe possibility of wheel breakage. Flanges for cut-offwheels may be different from grinding wheel flanges.f) Do not use worn down wheels from largerpower tools. Wheel intended for larger power toolis not suitable for the higher speed of a smallertool and may burst.Additional Safety Warnings Specific for AbrasiveCutting-Off Operations:a) Do not “jam” the cut-off wheel or applyexcessive pressure. Do not attempt to make anexcessive depth of cut. Overstressing the wheelincreases the loading and susceptibility to twistingor binding of the wheel in the cut and thepossibility of kickback or wheel breakage.b) Do not position your body in line with andbehind the rotating wheel. When the wheel, atthe point of operation, is moving away from yourbody, the possible kickback may propel thespinning wheel and the power tool directly at you.c) When wheel is binding or when interrupting acut for any reason, switch off the power tooland hold the power tool motionless until thewheel comes to a complete stop. Never attemptto remove the cut-off wheel from the cut whilethe wheel is in motion otherwise kickback mayoccur. Investigate and take corrective action toeliminate the cause of wheel binding.d) Do not restart the cutting operation in theworkpiece. Let the wheel reach full speed andcarefully re-enter the cut. The wheel may bind, walk upor kickback if the power tool is restarted in the workpiece.e) Support panels or any oversized workpieceto minimize the risk of wheel pinching andkickback. Large workpieces tend to sag undertheir own weight. Supports must be placed underthe workpiece near the line of cut and near theedge of the workpiece on both sides of the wheel.f) Use extra caution when making a “pocketcut” into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding wheel may cut gas or water pipes, electrical wiring or objects that can cause kickback.Safety Warnings Specific for Sanding Operations:a) Do not use excessively oversized sanding discpaper. Follow manufacturers recommendations, when selecting sanding paper. Larger sandingpaper extending beyond the sanding pad presents alaceration hazard and may cause snagging, tearing ofthe disc or kickback.Safety Warnings Specific for Wire BrushingOperations:a) Be aware that wire bristles are thrown by thebrush even during ordinary operation. Do notoverstress the wires by applying excessiveload to the brush. The wire bristles can easilypenetrate light clothing and/or skin.b) If the use of a guard is recommended forwire brushing, do not allow interference of thewire wheel or brush with the guard. Wire wheelor brush may expand in diameter due to work loadand centrifugal forces.Additional safety warnings:16. When using depressed centre grindingwheels, be sure to use only fiberglass-reinforced wheels.17. NEVER USE Stone Cup type wheels with thisgrinder. This grinder is not designed for thesetypes of wheels and the use of such a productmay result in serious personal injury.18. Be careful not to damage the spindle, theflange (especially the installing surface) or thelock nut. Damage to these parts could resultin wheel breakage.19. Make sure the wheel is not contacting theworkpiece before the switch is turned on.20. Before using the tool on an actual workpiece, let it run for a while. Watch for vibration orwobbling that could indicate poor installationor a poorly balanced wheel.21. Use the specified surface of the wheel toperform the grinding.22. Do not leave the tool running. Operate the toolonly when hand-held.23. Do not touch the workpiece immediately afteroperation; it may be extremely hot and couldburn your skin.24. Observe the instructions of the manufacturerfor correct mounting and use of wheels.Handle and store wheels with care.25. Do not use separate reducing bushings oradaptors to adapt large hole abrasive wheels.26. Use only flanges specified for this tool. |
