2-45Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)All 2006-2011 Malibu Boats are equipped with electronic throttle control AKA “Drive-By-Wire.” The throttle cable has been removed and several components on the engine and helmthrottle control have been changed. The helm throttle control “E-MV3” is now dual, variablevoltage potentiometer that sends electronic signals back to the engine ECM via a shieldedwire harness with the highest quality water-tight connectors that mates to the engine ECM.The ECM then uses the signals from the E-MV3 to precisely control the engine speed withan electronic throttle body. Do not make any modifications to the throttle control to ensureproper operation.ETC failure: If for any reason, any part of the electronic throttle control system fails;(unplugged, wire cut, short, loss of power, sensor failure) the engine controller will default to“Idle.” You will have “no” control of the throttle, the “Engine Fault” alarm will also beactivated. If this ever happens; turn the key OFF and then restart. This will reset thecomputer area network. If this condition continues, take the boat to the dealer. For more information regarding the safe operation and maintenance of the throttle control, refer to the separate instructions located in the information packet shipped with your boat.Steering SystemIt is important that you get the “feel” of your Malibu boat’s steering system. Turn thewheel from full left to full right, and make sure the rudder is turning accordingly. Thesystem should operate freely and smoothly. See Malibu Exclusive Adjustable RudderSystem in Chapter 3 for rudder adjustment.Notice: It is normal for your Malibu steering to pull slightly to the rightunder normal driving conditions.Emergency Engine Stop SwitchThe emergency stop switch attaches to the operator of theboat and shuts down the engine if the operator isaccidentally forced away from the helm. The switch consists of an ON/OFF switch and a switchclip/lanyard clip, which is connected between the stop clipand the operator. Should the operator move away from thecontrols, the clip pulls free, flipping the switch to the OFFposition and stopping the engine. If the engine must beshut down quickly, a pull on the lanyard cord to releasethe clip from the switch will stop the engine. To reset the switch after activation, reinstall the lanyard clip and flip switch to the UPposition.Figure 2-20.
