2-36Throttle ControlThe throttle lever is located to the right of the driver. When the throttle is vertical, it is in the “NEUTRAL”position. At the base of the throttle you will find the shiftlock knob. Pulling outward on this knob disengages thetransmission, thereby allowing use of the throttle withoutengaging the transmission. This is used for warm-up of theengine in neutral. Be sure to position the throttle vertically(in “NEUTRAL”), before re-engaging the transmission, bydepressing the knob. When engaging the transmission from “NEUTRAL” toeither forward or reverse, you must pull up on the safety collar located directly below thethrottle lever knob.Do not shift from forward to reverse at high RPMs; damage tothe transmission will result. When shifting from forward toreverse you must stop in the NEUTRAL position, doing thisallows the engine to run in its idle position before moving intothe opposite gear. Moving the shift lever from FORWARD toREVERSE without stopping in NEUTRAL can cause thetransmission to “slam” into gear, damaging the transmissionand/or causing the engine to shut off. This will causetemporary loss of boat control which can cause damageand/or injury to the boat and/or persons in/or around theboat. Before starting the engine or engaging transmission, ensureall swimmers are out of the water.Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)All 2006-2010 Malibu Boats are equipped with electronic throttle control AKA “Drive-By-Wire.” The throttle cable has been removed and several components on the engine and helmthrottle control have been changed. The helm throttle control “E-MV3” is now dual, variablevoltage potentiometer that sends electronic signals back to the engine ECM via a shieldedwire harness with the highest quality GM/Delphi water-tight connectors that mates to theengine ECM. The ECM then uses the signals from the E-MV3 to precisely control theengine speed with an electronic throttle body. Do not make any modifications to the throttlecontrol to ensure proper operation.Figure 2-18. Throttle
