When Auto Focus FailsThe Auto Focus function requires contrast on the subject. Auto Focusing may fail toachieve accurate focus with certain subjects described below. In such cases, eitherswitch to the manual focus mode and focus manually, or bring into focus an object atthe same distance as the object you want to photograph, lock the focus using thefocus lock mechanism, then take the picture. (see the following page)Low-contrast subject (blueskies, white walls and otherobjects)Two or more objects overlap atdifferent distances within thefocus frame (animals incages, etc.)Subjects with continuousrepeated patterns (buildingexteriors, blinds, etc.)Extremely backlit reflectivesubjects (car bodies, watersurfaces, etc.)When the subject is far smaller than the focus frame2. Lock the focus.When the focus mark in the viewfinder LCDis lit, press the AF lock button on the front of thecamera to lock the focus.When the focus mode is set at “S” (singlefocus mode) and the focus mark is lit,hold the shutter release button halfway downto lock the focus.Using the Focus Lock Function3. Adjust the composition.With the shutter release button half-pressed,slide the camera to achieve the desiredcomposition, and release the shutter.1.
