Part Number 000001590 Rev03 11/19 19Section 3 OperationSequence of OperationDepending on ambient conditions and cold water supplytemperature, the ice making process will take approximately30 minutes.Step 1 Initial Start-Up orStart-Up After Automatic Shut- Off — Water FillBefore the compressor starts, the water inlet valve willenergize to purge old water from the system for about 3minutes.Step 2 Refrigeration System Start-UpThe compressor starts after the Water Fill cycle and remainson throughout the Freeze and Harvest cycles. The condenserfan motor starts and runs throughout the Freeze cycle.Step 3 FreezeThe water pump sprays water into the inverted cups. Thewater freezes layer by layer, until an ice cube forms in eachcup. The control system will adjust the length of the Freezecycle to conditions.Step 4 HarvestThe water pump shuts off and the water inlet valve starts upto assist harvest and refill the water sump. The evaporator iswarmed, allowing the cubes to release from the evaporatorand drop into the storage bin. The control system will adjustStep 5 Automatic Shut-OffThe level of ice in the storage bin controls the ice machineshut-off. When the bin is full, ice will contact the binthermostat bulb holder. The bin thermostat bulb cools, whichstops the ice machine. The ice machine remains off until iceno longer contacts the bin thermostat bulb holder and thethermostat bulb warms up. The increase in temperature willrestart the ice machine (step 1SAFETY TIMERSThe control board has the following non-adjustable safetytimers:• Initial cycle is 5 minutes longer than subsequent cycles.• The ice machine is locked into the freeze cycle for 10minutes (15 minutes initial cycle) before a harvest cyclecan be initiated.• The maximum freeze time is 120 minutes at which timethe control board automatically initiates a harvest cycle(step 4).• The maximum harvest time is 5 minutes at which timethe control board automatically starts a freeze cycle.Operational ChecksManitowoc ice machines are factory-operated and adjustedbefore shipment. Normally, new installations do not requireany adjustment. To ensure proper operation, always follow the OperationalChecks:• when starting the ice machine for the first time• after a prolonged out of service period• after cleaning and sanitizingNOTE: Routine adjustments and maintenance procedures arenot covered by the warranty.WATER LEVELThe ice machine maintains the correct water level. The waterlevel is not adjustable.BIN THERMOSTAT ADJUSTMENTThe bin thermostat stops the ice machine when the bin isfull. Turn the thermostat counterclockwise to decrease thelevel of ice in bin or clockwise to increase the level of ice inbin.
