Failure to use the shorting plugs mayreduce the reliability with which the NAP 6-50 drops into standbymode. Serious damage is likely to occur if yellow shorting plugsare used on Naim equipment other than the nap 6-50.The negative input and output connections within each zoneare common but there is no signal negative connectionbetween them. The mains earth grounds only the case and theelectrostatic screen within the transformer and is not connectedto the signal negative. The mains earth must always beconnected to “ground” regardless of any other equipment used.In order to avoid hum-loops the signal negative of the wholesystem should be connected to the mains earth in one place. This should be the primary signal source.47.1 OperationOnce installed the NAP 6-50 is intended to remain permanentlypowered-up via its front panel switch. When not in use theamplifier will drop into “standby” mode during which less than 1Watt is dissipated. Standby mode is indicated by the front panellogo illuminating red. Switch from standby to operational mode47 Installation and ConnectionThe NAP 6-50 is a six channel power amplifier intended for use in multi-room audiosystems. The six channels are configured as three sets of two (left and right). The threesets are intended to provide audio power to drive one pair of loudspeakers in threemulti-room “zones”. Audio line level input for each zone is via 4-pin DIN sockets. The NAPV 175 is heavy and care should be taken when lifting or moving it. Make surethat the surface it is to be placed on can support the full weight.takes place automatically when a programme signal is detectedat any input or, alternatively, can be controlled via the 3.5mm“jack” trigger input socket on the rear panel.47.2 ProtectionThe NAP 6-50 uses a fan to assist heat dissipation. Fan speedis increased automatically in response to an increase in heatdissipation. If the internal heatsink reaches 70°C due toprolonged running at very high dissipation, blocked airflow, orfan failure, the mains supply will be interrupted and the indicatorlight will go off until the amplifier has cooled down. This may takeup to thirty minutes.47.3 SitingCare should be taken when siting the NAP 6-50 to ensure thatthe ventilation and fan apertures are not obstructed.47.4 Loudspeaker connectorsSpecial Naim Audio loudspeaker connectors are supplied tomake the connection to the power amplifier(s). IN ORDER TOCOMPLY WITH CURRENT EUROPEAN SAFETY REGULATIONS ITIS ESSENTIAL THAT THESE ARE USED.49 NAP 6-50 SpecificationPower Output: 30 Watts per channel, 8ΩChannels: Six (in three zone pairs)Voltage Gain: +29dBInput Impedance: 18kΩFrequency Response: -3dB @ 3Hz and 50kHzStandby Consumption: <1WTrigger Input Voltage: 4.5V to 12V (plug tip +’ve)Dimensions (H x W x D): 87 x 432 x 314mmMains Supply: 100-120V or 220-240V, 50/60Hz48 NAP 6-50 Rearmains inputand fusezone 1speakerch2, rightinputzone 3zone 2speakerch2, rightzone 3speakerch2, rightinputzone 2inputzone 1zone 3speakerch2, lefttriggerinputzone 2speakerch2, leftzone1speakerch2, leftPower Amplifier
