Page 3 ETI-152ANEAX2400 ICS ISDN PRI Installation NotesThe PBX supports User to Network protocol; however, provision has been made for thePBX to be configured as a network for test purposes. In applications where two PBXs areconnected via private lines, one PBX may be configured as a network (however, NEC doesnot guaranty this type of operation).2.3 ISDN PRI ServicesISDN PRI offers a number of features and services. It is important to know the type ofservices the customer has ordered with the ISDN PRI at the time of installation. Thisinformation will help you to configure the PBX correctly. The services may be provided by the carrier through Servicing Provisioning (or Fix) or asCall-by-Call (CBC) Service Selection. Servicing Provisioning is a type of service dedicatedto specific ISDN interfaces or channels. CBC is a service where channels are not dedicatedto a specific service and are, therefore, not channel dependent.CBC is also distinguished by its use of the Network Specific Facility (NSF). The NSF usesvarious information elements in the setup message for each given call and allows for theidentification of the type of service requested when a call is placed. In the case of CBC, theNSF needs to be sent by the PBX to the network with each call. The ACBC command isused for setting CBC. This command also allows you to program the type of numbering plan(examples include national, international, or private; type of network (AT&T or NT); andtype of service or feature). When the NSF is not sent when requested or is not recognized bythe network, the call will be rejected. The customer should provide information regardingthe types of subscribed services. In the case of Local CO where the services subscribed toare DOD and DID on a same ISDN interface without the NSF, the programming of the NSFis unnecessary. The ACBC command is also used to indicate to the network the long distance carrierselection code. An example of this would be when the ISDN is provided by the local carrierand long distance is provided by AT&T, MCI, or Sprint. This is called Transmit NetworkSelection (TNS).The number provided by the user to the network or PBX is the Calling Party Number (CPN).The CPN is programmed with ACNP and ACND commands. These commands add the areacode number and office code numbers to the extension number from where the calloriginated. If multiple CPNs are required, the AANDE command should be used; thiscommand will allow the assignment of one CPN per individual tenant. The AANDEcommand will override the ACNP and ACND commands. The CPN can be privacy optionedwith the feature class of service using the ASFC SFI 94. The privacy option service notifiesthe network and called party to restrict the presentation of the CPN. If SFI 94 was set to 1,the network will deliver the CPN to the called user with “Presentation Restricted” in theindicator field. It is the responsibility of the user to restrict the CPN when the CPN and the“Presentation Restricted” message are received at the same time. The ISDN network can deliver two types of caller ID - Billing Number (BN) or CallingParty Number (CPN). Two additional SFIs - 97 and 98 - are used to indicate which caller IDis preferred to be received from the network.
