5-26 Installing OptionsPreparing the DeviceBefore installing a storage device in the system, follow anypreinstallation instructions that come with the device. Forexample, check the following: Diskette drive remove any termination on the optionaldiskette drive. See the documentation that comes withthe drive. IDE device check the jumper settings on the devicebefore installing it. See the documentation that comeswith the device for jumper setting information.An IDE device, such as an IDE hard disk or IDECD-ROM reader, must be set correctly as the first(master) or second (slave) device on the IDE channel.The standard IDE hard disk (in hard disk models) is setas the master device on the primary IDE connector. TheCD-ROM reader in multimedia models is the masterdevice on the secondary IDE connector. SCSI device check the jumper settings on the devicebefore you install it. See the documentation that comeswith the device for jumper setting information.Each SCSI device must have a SCSI ID number set forthe device. The SCSI adapter board can have as many as15 devices connected to the board (internal andexternal). The last device on the internal and externalcable must be terminated. The SCSI adapter board is setto SCSI ID number 7 and the internal SCSI drive is setto SCSI ID number 0.
