Each port supportstwo devices for a total of four IDE devices. The system supports the installation of an IDECD-ROM reader for system configuration flexibility without the addition of a controller. The fast IDE port features an enhanced IDE interface which supports up to 10 MB per sec-ond 32-bit wide data transfers on the high-performance VESA local bus (VL bus). (Stan-dard IDE supports 2 MB to 3 MB per second on the ISA bus.) In hard disk configurations, the standard hard disk is connected to the fast IDE port for high performance.ISA/PCI-BUS BACKBOARDThe ISA/PCI-bus backboard plugs into two bus connectors on the system board. The back-board provides expansion slots for additional circuit boards. The backboards for the desk-top and minitower systems are described below.n desktop systems (four slots) – three 8-/16-bit ISA slots (two available), oneshared 32-bit PCI and 8-/16-bit ISA slotn minitower systems (five slots) – four 8-/16-bit ISA slots (two available),oneshared 32-bit PCI and 8-/16-bit ISA slot.ISA BusThe system board uses the ISA bus for transferring data between the processor and I/O pe-ripherals and expansion boards. The ISA bus supports 8- and 16-bit data transfers and typi-cally operates at 8.33 MHz. A connector is provided on the system board for attaching theISA/PCI-Bus backboard.
