2-10 Using the Hardwaren Numeric Keypad — Pressing Num Lock on the key-board activates the numeric keypad numbers and func-tions printed in blue on the keys. Num Lock works onlywhen no external keyboard or scanner is connected.The keypad lets you type numbers and mathematical op-erands (+, –) as you would on a calculator. The keypadis ideal for entering long lists of numbers.When you press Num Lock again, the keys revert totheir normal functions as typewriter keys.n Control keys — Ctrl, Alt, Fn, and Shift are controlsused in conjunction with other keys to change theirfunctions. To use control keys, press and hold the con-trol key while pressing another key. For example, “pressCtrl c” means to hold down the Ctrl key and type theletter c. How the key combination works depends on theapplications you are running.The NEC VersaGlide TouchpadThe NEC VersaGlide touchpad is an easy way to controlthe screen pointer (cursor) with your finger. Lightly glideyour finger across the NEC VersaGlide touchpad and thecursor follows. You can select items in one of two ways:n Double tap your finger on the VersaGlide touchpad. Agentle tap is all that is required.n Double click the left button (this is the primary button).Try both ways and decide which you prefer.
