48Part 5 - Venting2. Venting Through an Existing SystemThis boiler may be vented through an existing unused vent system. The inner diameter of the existing vent system is utilized for thecombustion air source. Two methods have been approved for suchventing: Concentric Venting Through an Existing System and Ventingas a Chase.Table 17 - Minimum Existing Vent / Chase SizingSEALSEALEDEXISTINGEXHAUSTCAP(w/SCREEN)SEALAIR INTAKESEALLP-325-LL03/15/12ExhaustIntakeConcentric Venting through an Existing System112" MIN.LP-325-MM03/15/12EXHAUSTSEALw/SCREENEXISTINGAIR INTAKESEALED CAPCOMBUSTION AIRCOMBUSTIONAIRSEALConcentric Venting through an Existing System2IntakeExhaust ExhaustIntake24"LP-700-B03/27/19AIR INLETEXHAUSTEXISTINGVENTSEALCAPSEALChase Venting Through an Existing System3NOTE: These drawings are meant to demonstrate system venting only. The installer is responsible for all equipment and detailing required by local codes.Concentric Venting Through an Existing SystemNOTE: The following instructions refer only to venting through anexisting vent system, and not to venting with NTI’s optional concentricvent kits. Refer to Concentric Vent Kit installation manual (LP-166) forfurther information on venting with the optional concentric vent kits.Concentric venting through an existing system must run verticallythrough the roof. See Table 17 for proper minimum vent sizing. Useonly the approved venting materials specified in Table 11 for pipingthe system. All instructions listed in this Venting section apply. SeeFigures 51-1 and 51-2 for venting demonstrations.Chase Venting Through an Existing SystemWhen venting as a chase, follow all instructions included in thisVenting section, including those in the previous Concentric VentingThrough an Existing System section. See Figure 51-3 for chase ventingdemonstration.Vent / Air Inlet Size Minimum Existing Vent / Chase Size2” 4”3” 5”Do not install the boiler into a common existing vent with any otherappliance. This will cause flue gas spillage or boiler malfunction, resulting in substantial property damage, serious personal injury,or death. The upper and lower vent terminations as well as all joints inthe venting system must be properly sealed to ensure that allcombustion air is drawn properly and exhaust does not leak fromthe system. Failure to properly seal the venting system will result inproperty damage, serious personal injury, or death.DANGERContractors must check state and local codes before installingthrough an existing vent opening. State and local codes always takeprecedence over manufacturer’s instructions. Failure to check stateand local codes before installing through an existing opening couldresult in property damage and add significantly to installation costs. If an existing venting system is converted for use with this boiler, theinstaller must ensure that the existing venting system is clean andfree from particulate contamination that could damage the boiler.Failure to do so could result in property damage and boiler failure.Such failure IS NOT covered under warranty.CAUTIONFigure 51 - 1, 2 - Concentric Venting Through an Existing System, 3, Chase Venting Through an Existing System
