All derivative product information shall be contained inthe applicable manual supplement, which may be obtained from Northern Airborne Technology Ltd. asrequired.Review all notes, warnings and cautions.Note: This manual contains information applicable to units MOD 4 and above.1.2 Product DescriptionThe PIA01 is a remote mounted Passenger Intercom Amplifier that supports up to twelve passengerstogether on one intercom system (six headset connections on the PIA01, each supporting two headsetsin parallel, if desired). Expansion capabilities are provided through either an analog or digital ICS Tie Lineconnection. Only one of these ICS Tie Lines is operational at any given time.1.3 Design FeaturesThe PIA01 has a number of configurable system parameters providing flexibility for customizedapplications. The PIA01 can be configured to support one of three microphone impedances and one ofthree headphone impedances. The microphone and headphone impedances selected will apply to all ofthe PIA01 users. The headphone outputs will support mono headsets. The microphone audio issummed together as one group. The PIA01 is initially intended for application with the Northern Airborne Technology (NAT) Digital AudioCommunication System (DACS). In this configuration, the PIA01 provides intercom audio with thepassengers of the Audio Management Unit (AMU) within the DACS system via the digital ICS Tie Line. The PIA01 communicates with the AMU using a serial data port. All intercom audio between the PIA01and AMU is digitized and passed over the serial data port. When used with the DACS, the PIA01 systemparameters are configured using a Personal Computer (PC) connected to the AMU via a Universal SerialBus (USB) serial port and NAT supplied DACS Device Configuration software. The PIA01 intercom audiolevel and VOX level matches the corresponding levels heard by the passengers connected to the AMU.The PIA01 can also be used as a stand-alone Passenger Intercom Amplifier. In this configuration, thePIA01 enables the analog ICS Tie Line for intercom communication with external devices. Microphoneand headphone impedances are selected via discrete inputs on the PIA01 external connector. Intercomaudio and VOX levels are adjusted via discrete inputs on the PIA01 external connector. The PIA01 also features a stereo music input. The stereo signal is summed to a mono signal and routedto all headphone outputs. The music input level is configurable to support portable or automotive inputlevels via discrete inputs on the PIA01 external connector.
