This development board isdesigned to function in several differentconfigurations. The primary configuration connects theLM98640QML evaluation board to NationalSemiconductor’s Wavevision 5 Data CaptureBoard (WV5). The AFEval software is used tocommunicate to the LM98640QML’s SPI port aswell as retrieve Data Output from the device fordisplay or external analysis. The presentrevision of the WV5 board is limited to 30ksamples per channel. Future revisions willallow for very deep memory capture (up to 8MBtotal).The LM98640QML evaluation board alsocomes with an auxiliary adapter card. This cardallows the LM98640QML output to be routed toone of three connectors for external datacapture and analysis. To facilitate thisconfiguration, a Total Phase Aardvark I2C/SPIHost Adapter is supplied to perform the SPIcommunication using the AFEval tool.A PCB footprint for and external clock oscillatoris provided on board to allow testing without theneed of an external clock source. An SMAconnection is available for connecting anexternal clock source when a variablefrequency may be desired. The power supply for the LM98640QML andsurrounding circuitry can be made through theWV5 board or from external bench top supplieswhen the WV5 board is not being implemented. The CCD signal inputs are made via SMD typeconnections. The signals can be routed directlyto the AFE, AC coupled, emitter followerbuffered, or sent into a video multiplexer tocreate a CCD type signal from a non CCDsource.2.0 Board AssemblyThe LM98640CVAL Evaluation Board comespre-assembled. Refer to the Bill of Materials inSection 6 for a description of components, toFigure 1 for major component placement and toSection 4 for the Evaluation Board schematic. The Evaluation Board comes as a single boardwith two distinct partitions. The Evaluationpartition is on the right side, and the AdapterCard is on the left. The two partitions should becarefully separated to connect the AFE dataoutput to the desired Adapter Card connector.Figure 1. Evaluation Board Layout
