RT2000 Instructions for use Page 416/05/20144.2 Description of controls1 On-Off switchSwitches the machine on and off. Upon switching onthe overload indicator will light and the machinesoutput will be inhibited, after 15 seconds theoverload indicator will extinguish and the machine isready for use.2 Current controlUse this control to set the output current of theRT2000.3 Slope up controlWith the slope up control set to minimum theRT2000 will strike at the current set by the currentcontrol. With the slope up control set to anywherebut minimum the RT2000 will strike at 5A and thengradually increase the current to the setting on thecurrent control, the time this takes is determined bythe position of the slope up control.4 Arc-force controlOperates in MMA mode only. This control altersthe welding dynamics of the machine to facilitatewelding with different types of welding electrodes(e.g. general purpose, celulosic, low hydrogen andiron powder). Turning towards maximum willincrease penetration at the expense of increasedwelding splatter, turning towards minimum willreduce penetration but the arc will be smoother andless fierce.5 Digital displayGives an accurate indication of the welding current.6 Lift/Spark start selector switchSwitches the machine into either 'HF start' or 'liftTIG' operation. In HF start a high voltage spark atthe Tungsten’s tip initiates the arc. In lift TIG touchthe Tungsten to the work-piece, press the torchswitch then lift the Tungsten to the welding position, the arc will initiate.7 Thermal cut-out indicatorIndicates that the thermal cut-out in the machine hasoperated (see paragraph 5.1 in the fault finding andmaintenance section for possible reasons).8 Power/Gas outlet connector. For connection of a TIG torch with a combinedpower and gas lead. If a TIG torch with a separatepower lead and gas hose is used, an adapter mustbe used to connect to this outlet.9 TIG torch switch connector. For connecting the TIG torch switch lead.10 Slope down control. With the slope down control set to minimum thecurrent will shut down immediately the torch switchis released. With the slope down control set to anywhere butminimum and the torch switch released, the currentwill gradually decrease from the setting on thecurrent control to 5 amps, whereby the current willextinguish, the time this takes is determined by theposition of the slope down control.11 Mode switchThis control switches the RT2000's welding mode.MMA sets the machine in MMA mode.TIG 2s sets the machine in 'normal' TIG mode, whereby pressing the TIG torch switch initiates thearc and releasing it will extinguish the arc (at theend of any slope down period set).TIG 4s sets the machine in 'latch' TIG mode, whereby pressing the torch switch and releasing itinitiates the arc, pressing and releasing it again willextinguish the arc (at the end of any slope downperiod set).12 Remote control socketFor connecting external remote control units, theseare the RC300 remote control, the RPC300 pulseunit and the RFP300 foot pedal. There is no switchfor remote operation, plugging an external unit intothe socket automatically selects remote operationand disables the internal current control.13 Negative weld out connector.Main welding power output connector, negativepolarity.14 Positive weld out connectorMain welding power output connector, positivepolarity.15 Gas In connector(On the rear panel - not illustrated)Must be connected to the pressure regulator on thegas cylinder by means of a suitable hose.
