SpeedCoach XL1, XL2, XL3 & XL4TroubleshootingFirst try to determine what exactly isn’t working – is the Coach or Boat unit the problem? If theunit in the boat shows numbers and appears to be working correctly, skip down to the nextchecklist. If not, check that:1. The unit is snapped securely into the docking station and the lanyard is not in the way.2. There is an impeller on the bottom of the hull and it is spinning freely. The wiring is installedcorrectly and intact. Check to make sure both the black seat sensor and blue speed sensor arestill taped securely to the deck or bottom of the boat, within an inch or so of the correspond-ing sensor.3. On a rowing shell, the unit’s stroke mode is set to “Seat”. (The stroke mode setting is underSystem Settings in the Main Menu.) On a boat that does not have a moving seat (so does notuse a magnet & the stroke rate sensor), set the mode to “impeller”.4. On a rowing shell, there is a magnet under the stroke’s seat. If you do not have a magnet, theunit can be set to the Impeller stroke mode. This method calculates the stroke rate based onthe changes in boat speed.5. The calibration number is correct. (The factory setting is 1.000.) The calibration number forthe unit is displayed in the Main Menu, under Calibration.6. All units are charged (It is preferable to charge the battery before the SpeedCoach XL’s bat-tery is completely dead).7. If you are still unable to find the problem, use a different SpeedCoach in your boat. It canbe any model (Red, Gold or XL). If the new unit does not work either, then there is a problemwith the boat’s wiring. If the new unit works properly, then there is a problem with the originalSpeedCoach unit. Try performing a Full System Reset (see last section). If that does not remedythe problem, contact NK.My unit says 1% FULL while charging, even after it’s been charged for afew hours. The first time a unit is charged, as well as after a Full System Reset, the XL battery must be“taught” what 100% full is. The battery must be plugged in overnight to achieve a full charge, and the unit will shut off when it’s finished charging. If your unit’s battery indicator still does not display a full charge after an overnight charge, tryusing a different charger. If the new charger successfully charges the unit, then the originalcharger is faulty and should be returned to NK. Otherwise, try a full system reset. My unit froze while trying to recall data and I can’t get it to work now.Code versions H1.09 and lower had a bug that sometimes resulted in the unit locking upwhile reviewing data. This error was corrected in code version H1.10. If you experience thiserror, contact NK to have the XL unit upgraded to the current code version. To determine what your unit’s code version is, press the top right button to go to the MainMenu, and scroll down to “About.”I tried all those things and it still doesn’t work!Do a “FULL SYSTEM RESET” as described below. If you have determined that your unit is set up correctly and still not working properly, per-form a Full System Reset. This function is like rebooting your computer, and often times fixesunidentifiable issues. Performing the Full System Reset will return ALL settings to the factorydefault settings, and ALL memory is erased. Therefore, if you have adjusted your calibrationnumber, you will have to reset it. If you have set the unit’s name, group name and privateID, you will have to reset these. You can also perform a “soft”reset from the “system settings”menu. Otherwise, you can perform a “hard” reset as described below. The unit must be switch off to perform this reset. Then press the following buttons in this order to initiate the Full System Reset:1. Hold buttons and at the same time with your thumbs for 3 seconds.2. While continuing to hold and buttons, press and hold button with yourleft index finger for 2 seconds, and then release your index finger, still holding andbuttons.3. Then press button by rocking your left thumb down onto this button. This should turn the power on and start the Full System Reset sequence. Release all the but-tons. After the Reset, your contrast will be returned to the factory setting of 11 and all memorywill be cleared. If you’ve performed a Full System Reset and the unit is still not workingproperly, contact NK on info@nk.com.au.NIELSEN-KELLERMAN19 Bancks Cres McKELLAR ACT 2617www.nk.com.auemail: info@nk.com.auPhone: 02 6258 9380Fax: 02 6258 2546Page 1Page 4 Revised May 2008 |
