DX Nikkor lenses are specially designed foruse with Nikon digital-SLR (Nikon DX format) cameras, such as the D2-series and D40-series. When mounted onNikon DX-format cameras, the lens’ picture angle is equivalent to approximately 1.5× the focal length in 35mmformat. Before using this lens, please read these instructions and refer to your camera’s User’s Manual.Major features• Enabling vibration reduction (VR) allows for shootingat shutter speeds approximately three stops* slower(at a focal length of 55mm) than when vibrationreduction is disabled, thus expanding the range ofeffective shutter speed options, and simplifyinghand-held shooting at a variety of zoom positions.(*Based on results achieved under Nikonmeasurement conditions. The effects of vibrationreduction may vary by individual and/or shootingconditions.)• This lens employs a Silent Wave Motor to drive thefocusing mechanism, making autofocusing smooth,silent and almost instantaneous. The A-M modeswitch 9 is provided for simple selection ofautofocus (A) or manual focus (M) operation.• More accurate exposure control is possible becausesubject distance information is transferred from thelens to the camera body.• The use of one aspherical lens elements ensures sharppictures virtually free of color fringing. Also, by utilizinga seven-blade diaphragm that results in a nearlycircular aperture, out-of-focus objects in front of, orbehind, the subject are rendered as pleasing blurs.Mounting the lens1 Turn the camera off.2 Remove the rear lens cap (Fig. D).3 Keeping the mounting index 7 on the lens alignedwith the mounting mark on the camera body,rotate the lens counterclockwise until it clicks intoplace. Be sure that the mounting index 7 is on theuppermost side.4 Remove the front lens cap.
