30EnNotes on using vibration reduction• Wait until the image in the viewfinder stops vibrating before fully depressingthe shutter release button after you have lightly pressed the shutter releasebutton.• Due to the characteristics of the vibration reduction mechanism, the image inthe viewfinder may become blurred after releasing the shutter.• If you set the AF start (AF-ON) button (Fig. 4) to “ON“ on the camera or theFocus operation button on the lens, vibration reduction will not operate.• Set the vibration reduction mode switch to “TRIPOD“ to reduce camera shakeand image shake in the viewfinder while using a tripod. Very slight camerashake may fail to activate the vibration reduction system. Conversely, the VRsystem may cause camera shake in the lens. In this case, vibration reductionshould be turned off. When using a tripod with an untightened head or amonopod, select NORMAL mode.• When taking panning shots, be sure to set the vibration reduction modeswitch (Fig. 8) to “NORMAL“.• If you move the camera in a wide arc when panning, vibration in the directionof that movement is not affected. For example, if you pan the camerahorizontally, only vibration in the vertical direction is reduced, making smoothpans much easier.• Do not turn the camera power OFF or remove the lens from the camera whilethe vibration reduction mode is in operation. (Otherwise, the lens may emit achattering noise if the camera is shaken. This is not a malfunction. Turn thecamera power ON again to correct this.)• With F80-Series/N80-Series, F75-Series/N75-Series, F65-Series/N65-Series,D300, D200, D100, D80, D70-Series, D50 and D40-Series cameras, vibrationreduction does not work while the built-in flash is recycling.8. Depth of field• Approximate depth of field can be determined bychecking the depth-of-field scale. (Fig. 9)• If your camera has a depth of field preview (stop-down) button or lever, depth of field can beobserved while looking through the cameraviewfinder.• For more information, see p. 216.9. Setting the aperture• Because this lens does not have an aperture ring, you must set the aperture onthe camera.Depth-of-fieldscale Distance indexlineFig. 9
