43Technical NotesTroubleshootingIf the camera fails to function as expected, check the list of common problems belowbefore consulting your retailer or Nikon-authorized service representative.Also, refer to the Reference manual (PDF format) for further details on how to use thiscamera (page 4).Problem Cause/SolutionThe camera is on but doesnot respond.• Wait for recording to end.• If the problem persists, turn the camera off.If the camera does not turn off, remove and reinsert thebattery or batteries or, if you are using an AC adapter,disconnect and reconnect the AC adapter.Note that although any data currently being recordedwill be lost, data that have already been recorded will notbe affected by removing or disconnecting the powersource.The camera cannot beturned on. The battery is exhausted.The camera turns offwithout warning.• The camera automatically turns off to save power (autooff function).• The camera and battery may not work properly at lowtemperatures.• The inside of the camera has become hot. Leave thecamera off until the inside of the camera has cooled, andthen try turning it on again.The monitor is blank.• The camera is off.• The camera automatically turns off to save power (autooff function).• The flash lamp flashes while the flash is charging. Waituntil charging is complete.• The camera is connected to a TV or computer.• The camera is shooting while Choose a style is set toAdd light trails.The camera becomes hot.The camera may become hot when used for an extendedperiod of time such as to shoot movies, or when used in ahot environment; this is not a malfunction.
