59Taking Photographs—White BalanceTaking Photographs—White BalancePreset White BalancePreset white balance is used to record and recall custom white balance set-tings for shooting under mixed lighting or to compensate for light sourceswith a strong color cast. Four options are available for setting preset whitebalance:Recording New Values with the Camera(1) Frame a neutral gray or white object and press the shutter-release buttonto measure a value for white balance ( 60).(2) Measure white balance with the ambient light sensor ( 60).Copying Values from Existing Photographs(3) Copy white balance from another image on the memory card ( 65).(4) Copy white balance from Nikon Capture 4 version 4.2 or later ( 66).The camera can store up to fi ve values for preset white balance in presetsd-0 – d-4. White balance values recorded with options (1) and (2) are storedin preset d-0. To prevent this value from being replaced the next time whitebalance is measured, the value stored in d-0 can be copied to presets d-1 – d-4for long-term storage ( 66). White balance values copied using options (3)and (4) are also stored in presets d-1 – d-4. A descriptive comment can beadded to any white balance preset ( 64).White Balance PresetsChanges to white balance presets apply to all shooting menu banks ( 167).
